Phil Mickelson is known for his easy-going personality in the golf world. He pulls pranks on his colleagues and tries to have funny and good interactions with his fans whenever possible. Therefore, it didn’t come as a surprise that he was a mischievous kid growing up.

Mickelson is an incredible golfer, and he had wanted to be the best from a very early age. That is why he snuck out of the home once to practice the sport on a Thanksgiving day. His sister, Tina Mickelson-Topacio, shared this interesting story from his youth in an interview.

“My parents were hosting Thanksgiving dinner and had told him he couldn’t play golf,” said Tina. However, the desire to practice more made him violate his parents’ orders. According to his sister, Phil paid his neighbor to take him to the golf course. Lefty then managed to stay there a lot of time until his parents came there in a golf cart to fetch him.

His parents had told Lefty not to practice golf on that Thanksgiving day. However, Phil didn’t listen and went to practice at the San Diego Stardust Country Club, where he used to work.

After Phil Sr. and Mary Mickelson found out about what he had done and brought him back home, Phil knew he was in trouble. “I’m good now. But if I don’t practice today, there are other people who are practicing,” Phil said to his parents that day. “They’re getting better while I’m not.”Since what he said was true, there was nothing that the Mickelson couple could have said to win that conversation.

Mickelson may have used the excuse to get out of the trouble that he caused on that Thanksgiving day. However, his thoughts didn’t go wrong as he rose to become one of the best golfers in the world later in his career. He has won more than 50 championship titles worldwide, including 6 majors.

Mickelson loved playing golf and wanted to make a career out of it. Although he knew he was good, he desired to be the best. Even though it put him in trouble with his parents in his youth, Phil didn’t give up. That determination and hard work are what made Phil Mickelson the golf world knows today.
