For players like Denny McCarthy who is leading with 10-under par after the first round and Rory McIlroy who made his career’s first hole-in-one, the $20 million worth Travelers Championship, is turning out to be a hoot.

Whereas there are some PGA Tour pros who have’t been so lucky, and had to withdraw from the tournament for several reasons.

Canadian golf pro pulls out of the Travelers Championship due to medical reasons

Two PGA pros had to make a sudden exit from the tournament during its first round on Thursday. Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes, had to withdraw from the event during its first round due to illness. During late hours on Thursday, Hughes took to Twitter to explain what exactly caused his early exit. According to Hughes, he started facing discomfort three days ago during his flight to the event on Monday morning. He was having intense pain in his lower right back which continued during the entire flight. After he landed he went to a hospital where after a CT Scan he found out that he had kidney stones.

Since he didn’t pass the stones despite taking pain meds, Hughes had to withdraw from the event which he called his ‘favorite tournament of the year.’ This is his tweet which he captioned – Update on my WD from The Travelers“.

It is commendable that Hughes tried his best to carry on with the game and not disappoint his fans. Last week, at LACC, he was tied in 49th position and at Cromwell, he shot first-round 76 but had to withdraw after that immediately. But there is one more player who had to give up on winning this year’s Travelers Championship.

Another PGA Tour pro follows Hughes and withdraws from the tournament

Another player who couldn’t make it past the first round is four times PGA Tour winner, Kevin Kissner. The exact reason behind his withdrawal isn’t clear yet. Kisner carded a double-bogey at No. 13 and a triple-bogey at No. 17. He left after reaching 7 over.

In the past he has won the RSM Classic in 2015, the Dean & DeLuca Invitational In 2017, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in 2019, and the Wyndham Championship in 2021.
