The 105th edition of the PGA Championship is mere hours away from kicking off. With the likes of Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Justin Thomas headlining the 156-players field, fans’ expectations are through the roof this year.

Meanwhile, World No. 10 Jordan Spieth‘s recent wrist injury has evoked doubts in golf enthusiasts about his appearance. But, a new update regarding the golfer has now come to light, which is bound to thrill fans at large.

Jordan Spieth is one of the most decorated golfers ever, with the 29-year-old already claiming three of the four coveted major titles. However, the one major that has evaded him since he went pro at age 19 is the PGA Championship title. The golfer came close to winning it in 2015, losing the Wanamaker trophy to fellow PGA Tour compatriot Jason Day.

With a possible career grand slam at stake, Spieth’s fans were greatly disappointed when he broke the news about his wrist injury last week. Consequently, the golfer also withdrew from the recently-concluded AT&T Byron Nelson event. But will the 3-time major winner return to action for the year’s second major? Well, former PGA Tour golfer Colt Knost believes he will.

Knost, a member of CBS Sports‘ golf coverage team, shared on Monday that Spieth is traveling to New York for the event. “He is making the trip to Rochester tonight. [I] haven’t heard from him much this week, but he will be making the trip,” he said. The 105th edition of the major will be held at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. The iconic golf course has previously hosted three editions of the PGA Championship.

Knost didn’t confirm Spieth’s participation, however, sharing that he was unsure whether the player would “tee it up on Thursday.” Besides the mystery surrounding the 13-time PGA Tour winner’s appearance, fans have recently been treated to the news of other disappointing withdrawals as well, with some past champions of the title in the mix.

Former PGA Championship winners withdraw from event’s 105th edition

After an extremely exciting edition of the Masters last month, fans are now readying themselves for the year’s second major. A PGA vs. LIV battle will also go down this time, with 18 golfers from the Saudi-backed league making it to the field. But the absence of certain golfing heavyweights has disappointed many fans!

One golfer that fans were eagerly looking forward to is the much-loved John Daly. Owing to his 1991 PGA Championship win, the 57-year-old can play in the major for life. But, Daly, who will undergo knee surgery in the coming days, withdrew from the event on Monday.

Last week, two other World Golf Hall of Famers and past Wanamaker trophy winners,  Vijay Singh and Davis Love III, also revealed their decision to withdraw from the event. Another player whose absence has left behind a gaping hole is none other than 15-time major winner Tiger Woods. The 47-year-old Woods is currently recuperating from surgery and will be sitting out the major as a result. The golfing legend has made 22 appearances in the PGA Championship, winning four times.
