The Hanwha LifePlus International Crown was last organized 5 years ago. Many thought that it was the finale but luckily it was not. The unique team-play LPGA event is back after being on a five-year hiatus. It is being held at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco for the first time. LPGA star Nelly Korda, is also playing this year and she revealed a secret as to why she chose the particular number for her jersey!
Nelly Korda reveals the reason behind choosing her jersey number
Nelly Korda is amongst the best female golfers right now, and she is currently ranked at number 1 in the world. She is making her USA team debut at Hanwha LifePlus International Crown. The purse of the team event is set at $500K. She will be playing alongside other top Ameican golfers on her team: Lilia Vu (4), Lexi Thompson (7), and Danielle Kang (16).

In an interview prior to the game, The younger Korda sister was mic’d up and answered a few questions about the game and herself. She revealed that the weather was pretty insane in San Francisco. It is extremely cold and it was important to keep warm.
The interviewer then asked her, “Why the number 28?” To which World No. 1 replied, “That is the day I was born.”

She said that she wanted the number 13 because “my parents are 13 days apart, but Lilia got to it before me so 28 was my next number.”
For those who don’t know, the star LPGA player was born on 28th July 1998, hence the number on her jersey.
A brief history of the Hanwha LifePlus International Crown

The LPGA tournament was announced on 28th January 2013. It was the second women’s team event after Solheim Cup, which only included American and European countries, and this new event was an initiative to showcase worldwide talent.
The 2023 edition is the fourth time when the event is being played. The inaugural event was held in 2014, then in 2016, and then it was held last in 2018. The Hanwha LifePlus International Crown was then set to be organized in 2020 but due to the pandemic, it was canceled.
The first tournament took place in 2014 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md, where Spain emerged as the winner. In 2016, the U.S. claimed victory at the Merit Club outside Chicago, and in 2018, South Korea won at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea.
