Hours Ahead of $25 Million LIV Golf Event, Phil Mickelson Oozes Confidence With His Bold Statement

LIV Golf is all set to host Greenbrier, the tenth event on its schedule. It will occur from August 4th to August 6th at The Old White in Greenbrier, West Virginia. As usual, the majority of the LIV golfers will be present at the 54-hole no-cut event. And among the big names that fans will be rooting for is, of course, Phil Mickelson.

It has been somewhat of a challenging season for Lefty so far, with inconsistent performances on the greens and missed cuts at multiple majors. However, as per a recent Instagram update, it seems like Mickelson is ready to put all that behind him and look ahead optimistically.

Phil Mickelson exudes enthusiasm for playing at the Greenbrier course

LIV’s Greenbrier event will witness 48 players compete for a $25 Million purse. If Mickelson manages to grab a win at this tournament, it will be his maiden LIV trophy. And even though the odds are stacked against him considering his recent performances, Lefty is as full of confidence as ever.

HyFlyers GC, Mickelson’s LIV team recently shared an update straight from The Old White captioned “Phil is feeling good.” And as per his words, he certainly was! In the Instagram video, the LIV star can be seen walking on the Greenbrier course and talking about his form. The man behind the camera asked, “Phil, we’re at the Greenbrier this week… How’s the game feeling?”

In an instant, the 6-time major winner responded, saying, “Yeah, the game, the game feels pretty good. Golf course is in great shape. I love coming to the Greenbrier. It’s just an awesome place and it feel like it’s coming together. So, I am excited.”

Lefty undoubtedly seems confident to be on the Greenbrier greens, or is it his game? Perhaps, both. And perhaps his confidence is boosted thanks to his recent equipment upgrade, too. However, only time will tell if this confidence is enough for him to beat out the other big competitors on the field this week!

Which LIV stars will Lefty have to keep an eye out for?

Alongside Phil Mickelson, some prominent names like Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka will take to the greens at The Old White. Coming from the recently concluded Open Championship, where arguably none of the LIV stars were able to put on a great show, they will all undeniably be looking for redemption.

Lefty will unquestionably have intense competition for the title this week, and Talor Gooch will certainly be one he has to keep an eye out for. The Oaklahoma resident has already won three times this year and is now looking for his fourth to further secure his top spot in the overall individual rankings.

Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka will also be on Mickelson’s list of fierce competitors as they sit 2nd and 3rd, respectively, on the overall leaderboard and look to inch closer to Gooch in the number one spot with a second win each this season in the remaining 4 events.
