In the past few months, the web constantly raised discussions about the merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. And for good reason. There is a certain amount of ambiguity in the matter. While they have not yet finalized the merger, the consensus so far is that it’s almost as good as a signed deal.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods’ absence, from the golf courses of late, has arrived at an interesting turn with the TGL warming up. The final list of players for the league came out recently, and it has sparked some serious discussions. One of them is about a specific set of players not being on the list.

What do these six players have in common?

The story begins with TMRW Sports, an organization that was founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and the TGL comes under the same. The league will have an under-the-lights golf season under the PGA Tour’s schedule.

The league will have 24 players who have been signed now, and you can find the list on TGL’s official website. Now, a Twitter handle named Pro Golf Critic has posted a list of six players who have not signed up for the league. The names include Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, and Jason Day.

The following statement preceded the list: “Now that the #TGL has solidified it’s roster of 24 players, they’ve signed 14 of the top 20 PIP players from 2022 (post-LIV).” The tweet concluded by saying, “Just reporting the facts.”

In continuation of the post, the handle added in a subsequent tweet that “also noting that for 2021, #LIVGolf signed 5 of the top 10 in the PIP. TGL signed 4, and there’s 1 unsigned remaining from that list… Jordan Spieth.”

Similar to the Ryder Cup scenario, there have been speculations about why some players have been sidelined. There are justifications why this is not based on an agenda as well. The comment section was bustling with debates on the matter.

Fans scream ‘Florida’ in the comments

Most of the comments defended TGL, mentioning how the decision was probably geographically driven. There were some other justifications as well, and contradicting arguments against them.

The following comment is a good example of the location-focused comments we mentioned earlier. It pointed out how the listed six don’t live close to Florida and how that might have played a part.

Another comment focused on the same angle and added a bit more. It suggested that these are conspiracy theories.

Pro Golf Critic replied to the comment and wrote, “Neither does Rahm/Homa/Kim/Morikawa but they’re magically able to show I guess.”
Another LIV comment, but this time, this user was talking about the special six mentioned in the tweet. A valid doubt, actually. Only if we could get an answer!
A logically gifted user commented on a series of potential reasons the six may not have signed up for the league. “None of those 6 live in South Florida, correct? Wasn’t that the intent they could go from jupiter to beach for this indoor league on Mondays.” The reasons actually make sense, though.
This comment stole the show though. The user asked a bold question, addressing the elephant in the room. “TGL = Florida frat boys by and large. None of your 6 live in the Sunshine State.”

Whatever the reason may be, it is unlikely any formal explanation might come from TGL’s side. And if it does, the comments section has already given us a good glimpse of what it might sound like. Tell us which comments you agreed with, and which ones made you laugh!
