The RBC Canadian Open of the PGA Tour, which was first-time held 119 years ago, has been an iconic event. Except for the two World Wars and COVID-19 global pandemic, the Tour management has conducted this event annually. However, this year’s tournament will go down the lane of golf history forever.
And Nick Taylor‘s name will be nailed to it. Fans and experts will talk about the historic moments carried out at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. While there were many accomplishments to celebrate, especially for Nick Taylor, OWGR, with its updated list added the cherry on the top.

The Canadian golfer, Nick Taylor, made the crowd in Ontario go berserk! With an extraordinary 72-foot eagle putt that helped him deliver the defeat to Englishman Tommy Fleetwood, Taylor signed history. The par-5 18th hole registered the victory of a Canadian on his home soil after nearly 70 years for the RBC Canadian Open. Pat Fletcher was the last Canadian to achieve this feat in 1954.

While Taylor did win a big payout of $1,620,000 from the colossal $9 million purse, he ascended in one more thing. It was an incredible jump on the official world golf ranking, all thanks to his jaw-dropping performance. As per the tweet by Nosferatu, the 35-year-old took a massive leap from the 69th position to the 44th rank on the leaderboard.

The tremendous climb in the OWGR and a mammoth homegrown victory are sure to boast Nick Taylor’s confidence before the third major tournament. The 2023 U.S. Open with these national triumphs is surely to witness top-level competition. Well, while Taylor did top up his world ranking, there were other Canadian and non-Canadian golfers who also went home positioned up on the leaderboard.
Other PGA Tour golfers who improved their world golf ranking post-RBC Canadian Open
Apart from Nick Taylor, two more Canadian PGA Tour golfers showcased epic golfing skills in Ontario. This included Adam Hadwin and Corey Conners who finished on T12 and T20, respectively. They executed a few incredible shots and thanks to that, the two currently enjoy 29th and 70th berths on the world ranking board. On one hand, Conners did not move from his previous positive and on the other hand, Hadwin ascended five steps.

Tommy Fleetwood, who finished second at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, rose three ranks in the OWGR to 21st place. The English golfers Tyrrell Hatton, who finished at T3, and Justin Rose also scaled to better positions. With the former taking the 15th berth and the latter ascending to the 25th position. In addition to this, Aaron Rai and C. T. Pan, who tied up for the third position with Hatton on the Canadian Open scoreboard, also went up quite a number of positions in the world standings.
Currently, Rai sits in the 94th slot. Pan also has taken up the 132nd position from his previous 191st rank. These players definitely improved their rankings before the mega event commencing on 15th June. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy enjoy the top three standings. Although, among the three, only McIlroy participated in the Canadian Open from June 8- 11. The Northern Irish golfer finished on T9 at a total of -12.
