After 54 holes, Rory McIlroy‘s biggest threat to his first Masters Tournament win was Bryson DeChambeau. The two had two strokes separating them as they were paired off in the same group for the final round at Augusta National. From the tee to Holly, McIlroy triumphed, but DeChambeau was left wounded. Despite the valiant effort, the LIV Golf pro managed to go 3-over par 75 in the final round to drop out of contention. Yet, he was gracious enough to admit how McIlroy “deserved to get this one.”
While all the spotlight might be on the 2025 Masters Tournament winner right now, the USGA decided to give DeChambeau some credit as well. Hours after his loss, the Crushers GC captain took a drive to Pinehurst Resort for a unique achievement. The United States Golf Association placed a plaque in honor of Bryson DeChambeau for his outstanding win in the 2024 U.S. Open.
Joe GolfTraveler shed light on the ceremony as he shared pictures from Pinehurst on X. The tweet was captioned, “Just had @brysondech at @PinehurstResort for the commemoration of his plaque by the bunker on 18,” confirming that the plaque is placed on the 18th hole.

Why the 18th hole, you ask? Well, that was the hole that helped him win the U.S. Open title last year. What’s more, it was a very challenging bunker shot 55 yards away from the cup. The incredible chip on the third shot of the par-4 hole landed within 4 feet from the cup. A simple putt in and DeChambeau was the 2024 U.S. Open winner, the second of his career. Sitting in his post-win Press Conference at Pinehurst, the LIV Golf pro confessed, “I’m so happy I got that shot up and down on 18. … That bunker shot was the shot of my life.” It was certainly one of the best shots in golf in 2024.

Bryson DeChambeau’s next big challenge
With the 2025 Masters Tournament done and dusted, Bryson DeChambeau will go back to his LIV Golf commitments. He is set to play in LIV Golf’s first visit to Mexico City. The LIV Golf Mexico City event is scheduled for April 25 to 27, 2025, and will be played at the Club de Golf Chapultepec. With three top-10 finishes in LIV Golf already this season, DeChambeau will be eager to grab a win in Tenochtitlan and rise up the rankings on the individual leaderboard. However, he will face stiff competition from the likes of Joaquin Niemann, Jon Rahm, and Sergio Garcia.

DeChambeau’s next major challenge will be in the 2025 PGA Championship. Returning to the Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club for the first time since 2017, this will be a chance for the 31-year-old to get some retribution against his PGA Tour rivals. Especially since he finished second against Xander Schauffele in the 2024 edition of the major.
