Gooch revealed through Twitter on Friday morning that he had been offered an invitation via email by the PGA of America for the second Major of the year in Rochester, New York. This invite holds greater significance for him since he may need to perform exceptionally well to qualify for the June U.S. Open. He tweeted just 2 hours before his tee time.

While speaking at the LIV Golf event in Singapore, Gooch commented on how things went down for him. “ It was really cool when the Masters came out and announced their field and recognized that I had qualified for the TOUR Championship and that they said, hey, you’re top 50 in the world and you qualify for the TOUR Championship, those are both how you got into the field.”

“Then the R&A came out and same thing, you qualified for the TOUR Championship; same thing, we’re going to recognize that and give you a spot in the field.”

“It was cool today, though, this morning waking up and seeing an invite from the PGA of America for the PGA Championship. It’s going to be a fun week, and yeah, it’s cool that they recognize the body of work and gave me a spot in the field,” said Gooch expressing his immense joy over the news.

Talor Gooch not eligible for US Open because of a change in the rules

Gooch was excluded from the US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club in June because he believed that the USGA changed the qualification rules “retrospectively.” He was not able to qualify for the US Open since the rules stated that players must not only qualify for the Tour Championship but also be eligible. Unfortunately, Gooch was suspended by the PGA Tour for joining LIV Golf and was unable to play at East Lake, which was his only chance of qualifying for the US Open.

Gooch needs to be in the top 60 of the OWGR at the conclusion of the PGA Championship to make the 123rd US Open in California.
