The recent merger of LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has left numerous players blindsided. Those players who were assured of their security with their respective Tours are now finding themselves directionless and confused regarding their future. LIV defector Sergio Garcia, who is ready to prove his mettle at the upcoming US Open, is one of those golfers who is very uncertain regarding his future with the Saudi-backed league and has thus given a shocking statement.
Sergio Garcia makes a shocking statement about his future with LIV Golf
Garcia is one of the oldest and most respected players in golf. The Spaniard who turned pro in 1999, has witnessed a lot of changes in the golf world since then. But with the $3 Billion merger of the Tours happening, the situation has come to threaten his future in the sport, or so he thinks.

Recently at the practice session of the US Open, Garcia was presented with some burning questions regarding his future and he gave some shocking answers. When a reporter asked Garcia if LIV was to disband, would he going back to the PGA Tour, he gave a very shocking reply. “Well if there is no LIV Golf I have to go somewhere.” Explaining this ignorance regarding LIV’s future he also said “I wish I could tell you more but unfortunately not much. I guess things will come out as everything settles.”

This remark is very much in contrast to his LIV Buddy and 4Aces GC captain, Dustin Johnson, who when recently asked about whether he was aware of any changes regarding LIV’s future, Johnson gave a very confident answer : that as far as he knows the schedule for LIV in 2024 will remain the same as it is this year.
It is quite concerning that while one LIV Captain is assured of his position and future with the league, another is confused and is already seeking alternatives to sustain.
Garcia’s success streak after moving to LIV Golf
Sergio was one of the big names that moved to LIV Golf last year. After switching Tours, he became the captain of the Fireballs GC last year, and led the team to victory at the Invitational in Bangkok.

It is rumored that Garcia was offered around $40 million to change loyalties. After his move, Garcia earned around $6,128,786 in prize money at the Saudi-backed tour. He was overall happy with the situation. Speaking about his disqualification from playing at the Ryder Cup, Garcia said last year that he was happy to be at the LIV Tour despite the consequences which he knew he would face at some point or the other.
On the PGA Tour, Garcia had an impressive winning streak too. He has 11 PGA Tour victories to his name, and scored a major victory at the 2017 Masters Tournament. But now when things have suddenly turned upside down owing to the merger, Garcia’s changed tune towards the PGA Tour could be a cry for survival in the game at this point.
