Apart from being the face of LIV Golf, Phil Mickelson has also been the voice of the lucrative Tour. As the battle of Tours turns uglier between PGA Tour and LIV Golf, Lefty has always been vocal with his hatred against his former Tour. With the Saudi-funded Tour still receiving no OWGR points, Mickelson has a bold message for the commissioners of the PGA Tour as well as for the CEO of the United States Golf Association.

Though Phil was criticized for his $200 million move to the Breakaway Tour, he has now become the most prominent face to denounce the American Tour. Whether it’s the prize money or the OWGR ranking, Lefty has always made his personal thoughts known to the public.

After claiming to be a ‘bit chippy’ on Twitter yesterday, Mickelson had some stern words earlier today to defend LIV Golf and even denounced Commissioner and a PGA Tour player as well. However, the message was too bold for the internet so the 52-year-old decided to delete it. What did the Hall of Famer have to say?

Phil Mickelson takes a jibe at his former Tour

As the time is ticking for the PGA Championship in two weeks, the full field list qualified for the Major was revealed yesterday.  Though his PGA Championship wins secured a lifetime invitation for Mickelson, his fellow LIV defectors have suffered from being a part of the Saudi-funded Tour.

Since the lucrative Tour isn’t under OWGR criteria, several golfers such as world number 103 Cameron Tringale and 110-ranked Sebastian Munoz have further fallen in the World Golf Rankings. While both LIV stars have failed to secure a spot for the PGA Championship, world number 128 Beau Hossler has ensured a spot at the Oak Hill East Course.

However, Hossler qualified for Major under the category of being outside the Top 70 players who have earned the most PGA Championship points, which is based on PGA Tour earnings through the Wells Fargo Championship. Nonetheless, Phil Mickelson then pointed out the discrimination in his tweet by writing, “PGA uses OWGR to get in”. Lefty also indicated that OWGR is ‘colliding with Tour and against LIV’.

Perhaps he must have meant colluding instead of ‘colliding’. After pointing out the biases of the ranking governing body, Mickelson then made a bold prediction about the Tour War. He wrote, “3 years from now who is most likely to still be here? Monohan or LIV?”. The confident 52-year-old golfer also added, ‘We won’t forget’, before also sending a warning to USGA CEO Mike Whan. Phil reminisced his long-time hate for the CEO by writing, “You too Whan”.

As the golfer posted the tweet, it instantly caught the attention of the golf world. However, Mickelson decided to delete the controversial tweet. Nonetheless, Flushing It’s social media handles managed to secure a screenshot of the tweet and share it publicly. Unsurprisingly, golf fans shared their thoughts on the now-deleted tweet.

Golf world reacts to Phil Mickelson’s bold warning

As the six-time Major winner’s stern message was viewed by the golf world many sided with Lefty. Some called for Mickelson’s ‘heroics’ while another fan viewed the controversy as ‘personal’.

One fan even focused on Phil Mickelson’s three-year warning to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

Nonetheless, the large number of admirers also included the same amount of critics. One hater labeled Mickelson as a ‘coward’ for deleting the tweet, while the other claimed that the defectors ‘signed up for all that cash’.
