The Ryder Cup is all set to begin this Friday. Zach Johnson and Luke Donald are gearing up with the best players on their team to fight it out for their team and country’s honor for three days on the golf course in Rome.
The Ryder Cup teams are fully prepared as well, having dialed in enough practice. However, controversies just don’t seem to get off team captain Zach Johnson’s back. He was asked about his decision to leave out the majority of LIV golfers in a recent interview at the captain’s press conference held at the Marco Simone in Rome, Italy. On Monday, the captains of the Ryder Cup were welcomed at the Marco Simone Golf Club for a press conference. Zach Johnson, the captain of the American team, was asked about the journey to Rome.
The American, without any uneasiness, stated that the last 24 hours had been quite smooth, though the journey had been lengthy and filled with anxiety because he wanted to get back to the Ryder Cup as soon as possible.
Zach Johnson was also asked about his picks. He was questioned about why Bryson DeChambeau wasn’t selected and why some other players were chosen. He replied that he could answer all the questions in a straightforward manner, revealing, “We have a point system within the PGA of America for the Ryder Cup USA.”
According to Johnson, it’s evident how players decide which tournaments secure the most points to boost their position in the Ryder Cup points tally.

To summarize his selection process for the audience, he pointed out that he essentially focused on the top 20 or 25 guys in the points tally to formulate his team.
