What a successful week this has been in the golf world! With the completion of the Open Championship, many interesting stories came from the field. From world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler‘s major setback in the Open to crowing the new king of the last major.
Brian Harman, who came to the course without much limelight, has become the center of attention. After winning $3,000,000 in Hoylake, he became the fourth American to win the coveted event. Additionally, he equaled Tiger Woods’ previous record. Even with his historic win, he was infamously exposed on live television. And now another pro golfer came to his defense. It is common to see golfers swing in the air and loosen up their hips before taking an actual shot. However, the newly crowned king Harman took the ‘waggle’ to a whole new level. He envisioned his shots so much that NBC Live installed a wiggle counter to keep track of how often he moved his weight. Many people were shocked to see Harman take so long because the ‘slow play’ has been a frequent source of contention.
However, LIV Golf defector Ian Poulter is not afraid to speak his mind. Poulter shared his views on Twitter. He believes that Harman’s tactics and game are superior to his peculiar habits. He outperformed everyone, including some of the top players, and that ought to be enough.
Brian Harman take a bow.. What a class week. For all those that gave him shit from the stands and waggle meters on TV and anyone else undermining his performance. You should be ashamed.
He outplayed the very best. Now respect him for that. Waggle away Brian 👍🏼👊🏼👏🏼🏆— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) July 24, 2023
Despite not participating in the Open, Poulter kept himself informed. And thanks to his witty personality, Poulter couldn’t help but take a funny dig at Herman when he said, ”Waggle away, Brian”.
Sure, Harman’s waggle is garnering a lot of attention, but did you know that if it weren’t for his father, he might never have taken up golf? Move forward!
Harman’s passion for different sport
When Harman was a child, his passion was not golf but baseball. But when he turned 14, his father advised him to go for golf rather than baseball. The reason was simple: Herman was not big enough to make it as a pro baseball star.
The PGA Tour Official posted a video of him talking about his love of playing baseball. The golf pro revealed that he took his father’s advice and started getting better at golf. “I really put all my eggs in the golf basket,” he stated. “[I] started working really hard on it and just kind of got lucky.”

Well, thanks to his dad’s advice, we get to see his amazing golfing skills on the course. Every athlete has their own way of coping with the pressure on the ground. And ‘waggling’ helped Harman too much to get him the Claret Jug.
