JR Smith talks about his golfing experience with Jack Nicklaus
No matter how good one is at what they do, everyone experiences their share of performance anxiety. This is especially true when they have to perform a skill that they might be good at in front of someone who has already mastered it. The same situation occurred with the 38-year-old former NBA star. Smith had to play in the presence of golf superstar Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus’s long-lasting legacy can make anyone feel overwhelmed. Admittedly, the same happened with Smith, who drew an interesting analogy to explain his extreme emotions during the encounter with Jack Nicklaus.
“Hitting a shot in front of Jack is so nerve-wracking. That’s like shooting a jumper in front of MJ,” confessed JR Smith.

Smith chose to compare the golfing situation he was in with something he would have experienced on the basketball court had he been still playing the game. He explained that playing golf in front of Jack Nicklaus is like playing basketball in front of NBA legend Michael Jordan. This comment drew a lot of attention globally.

Nicklaus’s legendary golfing career
The GOAT of the golf world, Jack Nicklaus, has carved a name for himself at the greens around the world. He has a shocking record of registering a win in 18 majors as well as winning 117 professional tournaments overall! However, his legacy has now surprisingly come to what seems like a soul-shattering end.
So, it is not a surprise that Jack has bid adieu to professional golfing. He recently talked about how his game has drastically changed. “I would like to go play again. I play so poorly anymore it’s just really not any fun. And I run out of golf balls,” Nicklaus said.
