Golf players in the PGA Tour usually play up to 20-30 tournaments a year, depending on their personal commitments. The PGA has laid out that a golfer must play at least 15 events every year, thus ensuring that these athletes are extremely busy. Rory McIlroy in particular, is probably the busiest of the lot.

While he continues to participate in all the events of this year, in his head, he is also prepping for next year. While he is knee-deep in the fight for the Ryder Cup, he has also made huge preparations for the new tour. And with his latest association with Billionaire Arthur Blank, McIlroy is ready to give the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League a run for its money.

In 2024, the newest golf league in the market, TGL, which McIlroy co-owns with Tiger Woods, is scheduled to launch. Being one of the few players whose spot at the Ryder Cup has been finalized, Rory is relatively relaxed on that front and can afford to pay more attention to the logistics behind his newest venture. However, he is still vying for the FedEx Championship, and this week will be playing at the Tour Championship.

During the event’s press conference, when asked about how his approach to the regular PGA Tour would differ with the launch of the TGL happening soon, McIlroy answered, “I think you can have a little more fun with it.”

He continued, “You can be aggressive. Yeah, it’s going to be a more lively atmosphere. We’re going to be mixed up. We’re going to be able to maybe say some stuff there that we wouldn’t necessarily say out here.”

Just a couple of days ago, the third team of TGL was bought by the CEO of Home Depot, Arthur Blank, who has a net worth of $7 billion and has also invested in NFL and MLS teams. The format of TGL is different from regular golf, as it will be all virtual reality, and play will take place on life-size simulators.

TGL is a tech-infused league that will launch in 2024. It was developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy and their company TMRW Sports as a way of persuading the top tour names to stick with the PGA Tour. In partnership with the PGA Tour, it will feature 18 players made up of six teams of three PGA tour players who will compete over 18 holes.
