This week the DP World Tour will be hosting the Horizon Irish Open. Played since 1927 it is among the oldest tournaments on the DP World Tour. And this year, the event will be hosted by The K Club – Ryder Course, Ireland this weekend from 7 -10th September.
Last year the open was won by Adrian Meronk, who won with three strokes over Ryan Fox. He has recently been snubbed for the Ryder Cup and will try his best to compensate for that loss here. Big names have lined up for this year’s event already.

156 golfers will take to the greens of the Irish open on Thursday this week. The event follows a regular 72-hole format, however, during the first two rounds, the field will be divided into morning and afternoon waves where the players will compete in threesome. The groups remain the same for both rounds with one round starting on the No. 1 tee and one round on the No. 10 tee.
The top 65 players and ties proceed to the next round. Tee times for the third and fourth rounds are based on each player’s total score. The golfer who has the lowest total score after playing 72 holes is the winner.
Australia’s Adam Scott is participating in the event. It has been a good season for Scott who will be playing his 250th start in the DP World Tour in Ireland after enjoying a month off.
Gracing the event will also be Shane Lowry who has only recently been declared to be playing at the Ryder Cup as a captain’s pick. Lowry has now a big responsibility on his shoulders and he will try to deliver a neat performance to maintain a good image till the Ryder week
Another big name at the tournament is Tyrell Hatton who has won six times on the European Tour out of which four Rolex Series events. His last win on the tour came in 2021.
The biggest name at the Horizon Irish Open is of course that of the Irishman, Rory McIlroy. He missed the event last year but this year he returns to try and claim the title that he won in 2016. He will be joined by Billy Horschel, Thomas Detry, Yannik Paul, Ryan Fox, and others, who will all be eyeing the whopping prize money the event offers!
