Exploring the realm of exhibition golf, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang are to be the first women players cast in The Match event. Reportedly, the event will take place in the first or second quarter of 2024. The two ladies will be joined by their male counterparts from the PGA Tour.
The Match features popular athletes in head-to-head matches. This time, the stars of professional golf will be against each other. Read ahead to learn about the two PGA Tour pros.
LPGA Tour pros to grace television golf

With TV golf getting popular, LPGA pros are getting ready to put their names on the list. The Match started in 2018 and since then has had Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stephen Curry, and many other prominent stars.
For the 2024 edition of The Match, 11-time LPGA winner Lexi Thompson and US rookie Rose Zhang are rumored to participate. As per numerous sources including Golfweek’s recent report, 4x major champion Rory McIlroy and Max Homa, who played at The Netflix Cup, will join the two LPGA golfers.
Moreover, the event will be a mix rather than two tour players against each other. The Match event was assumed to start on December 15 this year. However, Nate Smeltz, senior vice president at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports which produces the event, said, “I will acknowledge we’ve had some conversations but there are no intentions to have a Match in December.”
The event previously had Tiger Woods against Phil Mickelson (2018), Brooks Koepka vs Bryson DeChambeau (2021), and Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy vs Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas last year. It will be an 18-hole event, broadcast on TNT. and the Bleacher Report App will stream the same.
History of The Match

The Match started in November 2018, starring Phil Mickelson against Tiger Woods. Mickelson won the $7 million prize and beat Woods in the playoffs. The second edition was held at the Medalist Golf Club, Florida, in March 2020.
Woods and Mickelson were in a rematch, however, now paired with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady respectively. Woods’ team won The Match: Champions for Charity in 2020. After five months, The Match had Charles Barkley and Stephen Curry making their debut. Berkely was paired with Mickelson and Curry with Manning. Mickelson won the match once again.

Coming to the latest edition of The Match, it had Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson against Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. The latter pair won the match at the Wynn Golf Club in June 2023. Who do you think will be paired up for the 2024 edition?
