With 10 PGA Tour wins under his belt, including that unforgettable 2021 ZOZO Championship win in his home country, Hideki Matsuyama is officially the most successful Japanese player in Tour history. Last season, he kept the momentum rolling, making the cut in 19 out of 20 events, grabbing two wins, seven top-10 finishes, and 11 top-25s. Safe to say, he’s coming into the new season with plenty of firepower. Of course, it’s his skill that gets him the results, but hey, his gear deserves a little shoutout too. So, what’s in Matsuyama’s bag?

Hideki Matsuyama’s top choices for the long game

When it comes to his driver, Hideki Matsuyama is all about the Srixon ZX5 Mk II LS (9.5 degrees, $349.99). It’s got a forward-placed sole weight to keep spin down, which pairs perfectly with his aggressive swing. Add in the Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 TX Shaft ($380) for extra control and stability, and you’ve got a driver setup that’s all about power and precision.

For Fairway Woods, he’s got the TaylorMade Qi10 ($599) paired with the Graphite Design Tour AD DI 9 TX Shaft ($380). That $979 combo is all about keeping spin low and control high. Then there’s the Cobra King RadSpeed Tour (17.5 degrees, $209.99) matched with the Graphite Design Tour AD DI 10 TX Shaft ($379)—another stability-packed setup for tricky shots.

On the iron side, his 3-iron is the Srixon ZX5 Mk II is a perfect balance of distance and control (a full set runs $857–$999). For the rest of his irons (4-9), he switches to the Srixon Z-Forged II, a sleek $1,200 set that’s all about precision for those finesse shots. Not much has changed in his bag though.

Now, let’s talk shafts. In his 3-iron, he uses the Graphite Design Tour AD DI Prototype Shaft ($379) for a higher launch with low spin. For the rest of his irons (4-PW), he goes with the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 Shafts ($360), whose job is to provide him with great 4-PW) and give him rock-solid. And that’s the recipe for Matsuyama’s perfect long game.

What gear does Matsuyama use for his short game?

For wedges, he uses Cleveland RTX 4 Forged Prototype wedges in 48°, 52°-10°, 56°-8°, and 60°-8° lofts, paired with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts. These wedges are all about versatility around the greens, giving Matsuyama the tools to pull off just about any shot. At $109.98 each, they’re worth it, for sure.

As for the putter, Matsuyama sticks with a Scotty Cameron Prototype which is known for their feel and smooth roll. While the exact model and price aren’t clear, most Scotty Camerons run $400–$500—not cheap, but worth it for the magic they bring to the green.

And then there’s the ball. Matsuyama uses the Srixon Z-Star XV. At around $45 a dozen, it’s a pretty solid deal for something that delivers so much consistency.

With these gears in his bag, Matsuyama is surely ready to make some serious moves in 2025. So will he be dominating this year? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
