Jordan Spieth’s wrist issues started in May 2023 when he was playing with his son, Sammy Spieth. But the 31-year-old did not deem it as grave as it turned out to be in the 2024 season. After the first incident, Spieth felt the impact while making breakfast for his son, and the third time at the RBC Heritage when a tendon popped out while making a bunker shot. Things then dwindled, and he was close to withdrawing, but he didn’t. He continued for the rest of the reason.
However, in August he finally underwent a procedure to treat the ulnar nerve damage and now made his first appearance at the amateur fundraiser event, Crush It! Cup at the Brookhaven Country Club. There, the 13-time PGA Tour winner talked about the PGA Tour-PIF merger delay, what he was up to during the hiatus, and also when he will be ready to be back. The NUCLR Golf quoted Spieth on X as he revealed his possible comeback date.
Hoping for the best, he said, “I think that by 2025, by Jan. 1, it’s my goal to be tournament-ready. And for me, that would be not just going out and seeing how it feels, you know, but expecting to play at my ceiling.” However, Spieth is not exempt from playing in The Sentry, which will start on January 2nd, 2025. Yet he wants to be prepared to play his best again and be in the winning circle once again.

Can Spieth make a successful return after his wrist injury? The 31-year-old was extremely optimistic about it, but the golf world was not as supportive as Spieth would have hoped and doubted that he would be playing well in the 2025 season.

In the 2024 season, Jordan Spieth missed seven cuts, and after his wrist injury worsened at the Harbor Town Golf Club, he consistently finished outside the top 20. Courtesy of his indifferent performance, he missed out on the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship as he finished 68th on FedExCup Standings. Moreover, even before 2024, Spieth’s performance has not been exemplary either. It has been two years since he won on the PGA Tour and seven since his last major victory at the Open. Thus, this fan was not as hopeful and said, “Hope he gets better, but realistically he’s washed.” Another agreed that Spieth had lost his previous spark and commented, “How is it a comeback? I like the guy; he’s just not good anymore.” Either Spieth will be surprising the fans or he will prove their doubts right in the 2025 season.
At his last event of the season, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the 13-time PGA Tour winner started with a relatively better round of 2 under 68, where he made only two bogeys and four birdies. It seemed that Spieth would be playing similarly on the next day, but he did exactly the opposite. The 31-year-old started the second round with a bogey on the hole one but quickly recovered to make two back-to-back birdies. He looked good, but then after draining three bogeys and two double bogeys, he finished 5 over 75. He couldn’t salvage the remaining rounds at TPC Southwind and finished T68. Alluding to a similar mishap, this fan said, “I hope so! He’s a great player, but there’s always that one round that seems to go south, and it’s over from there. Look forward to watching him next season!”
Spieth was not the only one who had an ordinary season this year. Even Justin Thomas struggled to put up good scores or to win any event. For the last two years, the two pros were expected to be back; maybe they will start playing better this year. Unfortunately, none did. So, although Spieth was positive about gaining his form back, this golf enthusiast doubted it. They asked, “Wasn’t he supposed to be “back” this year? Just like JT?”

While many in the golf world were uncertain of Spieth making a powerful return and playing at his best, there were a few who believed the pro and his skills. This fan expected that Spieth would start winning again on the PGA Tour and break his 2-year-long winless streak and said, “Playing at the ceiling! Love it! Revenge tour starts Jan 1st, 2025!”
There are three months for Jordan Spieth to make a full recovery and hit the greens again. His rehabilitation in these days would decide his fate for the next season and if he would be a winner again.
