The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth stands out as this week’s premier global event and simultaneously acts as a preparatory ground for the European Ryder Cup team. Fresh from their recent visit to Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, all 12 members of the European team are playing at the event.
After the first round of the BMW PGA Championship, Viktor Hovland, while discussing the evident Ryder Cup ambiance, mentioned, “Yeah, it’s really cool to have all 12 guys in the field. Obviously got to play with Ludvig and Rory. That was great fun. Ludvig was certainly on a heater mid-round and the crowd was loving it.”
In Thursday’s opening round, Viktor shot 69. On the other side, rising star Ludvig Aberg stole the limelight from the established golf giants delivering an impressive 4-under 68, marked by six birdies on the back nine.
He further continued, “Hopefully we can make a few more birdies and less mistakes to get the crowds going but just a great atmosphere here.” When asked about the significance of Ludvig playing amidst such notable groups and large galleries, especially with Rome on the horizon, he stated, “I think it’s a good experience for him.”

Everyone’s attention is shifting to Ludvig’s performance. It’s truly inspiring for budding golfers. It goes on to show that with the right skill set, past experiences can be overshadowed, and on-ground performance becomes the primary factor in achieving national acclaim.
Praising Aberg, Viktor continued, “The way he’s played the last couple [of] months, he has not been a pro very long but he certainly doesn’t look scared of the moment. So I think it’s just a great experience for him but I don’t think — I think he’s ready regardless.”
