Tiger

Woods missed the cut at the 124th U.S. Open after scoring 74 and 73 on Thursday and Friday, respectively. His total of 7 over par 157 was not enough to meet the 5 over cutline at Pinehurst No. 2. This marks the 15-time major champion’s fifth consecutive missed cut at the U.S. Open, as he last played the weekend rounds in 2019. The early exit not only left the fans disappointed but also left the 48-year-old in a fuming state.

In the post-round conference, Woods shared how he felt after missing the cut and where he believed he had played well enough. The 82-time PGA Tour winner said, “Frustrating. I’m not here for the weekend. Granted, my ball-striking and felt like my putting was good enough to be in contention.”

Woods was disappointed that he missed the chance to win again; however, he accepted that without making the cut, it may never be possible. Ultimately, the PGA Tour pro rested his case by saying, “It just didn’t work out.” Woods might next be seen at the last major, the British Open, as the majors have been a constant fixture on Woods’s 2024 calendar.

Regardless, as much as it left the 48-year-old gutted that he missed the cut, the fans were not having it with Woods’s confession. They disagreed with the Jupiter resident’s belief that he played well enough and vocalized their disapproval of the whole matter.

Golf fans questioned Tiger Woods for thinking he played well

The first time Tiger Woods teed up in the 2024 season was at his own hosted event on the PGA Tour, the Genesis Invitational. Before playing at the 124th U.S. Open, Woods had competed in only three events. Out of those, he withdrew from one, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, and completed the Masters, where he finished T60. This user blamed Woods’s’ short schedule for the poor form and said, “He’s delusional. And if he’s only going to play 4-5 times a year he will never compete again. It’s not possible.”

On the second day of the U.S. Open, Woods struggled immensely with his putting. The 15-time major winner missed shots from the 12th to the 15th hole, which were all between 5 and 21 inches. In contrast to Woods’s belief that his putting was good, this fan showed him what spectators observed. They said, “His putting was far from good enough, one more British Open and it’s done put a fork in him.”

Woods has now missed the second consecutive cut of the year and statistically, the 48-year-old has been falling off in every player’s stats as he played fewer events and lacks the competitive persona he always had. Making fun of Woods’s confession, this viewer commented, “I must’ve been watching the wrong Tiger play.”

The 15-time major winner has had multiple injuries, including a torn ACL, and having his back fused after several surgeries and dozens of different injuries has left the 48-year-old stiff and with an aching body. This golf enthusiast reminded about the various injuries and blamed them for Woods’s underwhelming gameplay and said, “You can’t be a part time injured golfer and expect to win.”

Another took a jab at Woods and indicated that he should stop playing the majors and PGA Tour events. Instead, they suggested, “Time for Senior tour or to hang it up.” But the criteria for the PGA Tour Champions requires the golfers to be at least 50; thus, Woods might still have two more years before teeing it up at the senior league.

The spectators at Pinehurst No. 2 will miss Woods as much as he will miss playing. Do you think the 15-time major winner has made progress in his game? Will Tiger Woods finally break the curse of missing the cut at the fourth and final major — the British Open starting on July 18th?
