Henrik Stenson and Zach Johnson Share Words of Respect After Being Named Ryder Cup Captains

While the Ryder Cup is months away, the excitement and build-up have already begun. Though the teams will be decided later on, the captains have already been finalized. Zach Johnson will be captaining Team USA, while Henrik Stenson will captain Team Europe.

By the looks of it, both captains are hyped about the biennial event. Notably, this will be a golden opportunity for Team USA to make history again, and a chance for Team Europe to reclaim the cup.

The captains, of course, are looking forward to competing against each other.

Months before the team is assembled, Stenson and Johnson seem to respect each other.

“Henrik is a great choice for the 2023 European Ryder Cup captain. I have a ton of respect for him,” Johnson said. “Both on and off the golf course.” Johnson mentioned how he and his wife, Kim, are eager to start this particular journey with Stenson and Emma.

With March 2022 halfway done, there are 18 months to go before the event takes place in Rome, Italy.

Stenson replied as well, as the European captain echoed Johnson’s sentiment, also adding that he and his wife were ready for the 18-month journey.

Stenson and Johnson are both excited about the opportunity

Irrespective of the outcome, both captains are grateful for the opportunity. “This will be fun,” Stenson had written on Twitter, all too happy about the announcement. Not only is this a chance to represent one’s country, but it is also an opportunity to bring the cup back on European soil.

“I would like to thank the selection panel for believing in me and will say to them, and every European golf fan, that I will do everything in my power and leave no stone unturned in the quest to get the Ryder Cup back in European hands,” Stenson said.

Similarly, it can be Johnson’s chance to make history with his captaincy. Already having dominated with the 19-9 win in the last edition, Team USA has a chance to win two in a row. Up until now, Team USA has never won away from home.
