John Daly has been honest about his personal life in all his interviews. He even admitted to “begging” LIV CEO, Greg Norman to let him play in the LIV Golf league. But most of his confessions have been about his life after becoming a successful athlete. However, there was this one time when he talked about a rough childhood trauma he had gone through involving his father.

John Daly spoke about an unbelievable incident with his father
Daly has had a colorful time on the field. Be it his habits of drinking, smoking, or gambling, he has always chosen to enjoy his life on his terms. But things were not so “chilling” for the golfer throughout his life. Daly once discussed how his dad could have killed him while drunk.
“Right before mom had passed away, he’d put a gun in my eye and almost killed me,” Daly said. “I just kind of put him out of my life since then”. When asked to explain further about the shocking incident, Daly said that it happened on the 4th of July when his dad was drunk. He said his dad was following a girl named Kelly and started “grabbing at her stuff”.

Daly raised his voice looking at the scared girl and said, “Dad, get off the bus, go home, you’re drunk”. But his dad wasn’t ready to listen. Daly then called his brother and the two took their dad back to his place to lay down. The next thing he knew, his dad was pointing a gun at him, ready to shoot, asking him, “Who are you? Get the hell out of my house!”

The golf ace recalled how his daughter Shynah saw the whole thing happen. To stop his dad, Daly’s brother Jamie grabbed the gun out of his hand and “shoved his head to the wall… and shot the gun off”. That is when his dad understood what was happening.

Did Daly talk to his dad later?
The golf legend stated that he had no conversations with his dad after the incident. He also mentioned that his mom was going to divorce his dad. He shared the incident with her but did not speak to his dad for a long time.
