“How did he passed away?!” The golfing community has been pondering this question for some hours now. But, now this question has been answered! As per the latest update from the golfer’s family, Murray took his own life. After almost completing the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge, Grayson Murray unexpectedly withdrew, citing an “illness” that affected his play on the greens. Little did the community expect that it would be the last time they would see the golfer on the greens.
After taking the withdrawal, on Saturday, the news came out that Murray was dead. Just like fans, the pros, and the community are asking, just how he recently played 16 holes at Colonial Country Club. While the answer remains, the golf world is in sorrow right now. Recently, Paige Spiranac, the renowned golf influencer, also shared her sadness on X while reflecting on her relationship with Lt. Grayson Murray.
In her post, she wrote, “I’ve known Grayson since our junior golf days, and I’ll never forget how he always went out of his way to congratulate me on accomplishments, whether big or small.” This emphasizes their friendship, as he consistently supported her achievements, which likely provided much-needed encouragement during challenging periods, such as when she left the professional golf scene.

As the post gained traction on social media, the comment section quickly filled with expressions of sorrow over the news. Many fans posted messages like “Sorry for your loss,” suggesting that Murray meant more to Spiranac than just a golfer. Others remarked, “So tragic,” emphasizing the unexpected nature of the situation, especially considering that the golfer had recently played 16 holes in the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge before withdrawing. Murray had suffered from alcoholism, and depression in the past. He sought help for his troubles too.
While the official cause of death has not been disclosed, some fans speculated on the possible cause, commenting, “RIP big G. Addiction is serious stuff,” alluding to Murray’s previous struggles that he was very open about. In January of this year, Murray disclosed to NBC Sports that he had been sober for several months. Considering that, the unexpected death came as a surprise to many fans, as evidenced by comments such as “Damn 30, what happened?” Yet another golf fan commented exuding sorrow, “My prayers go out to his family and friends. I’m so sorry for your loss.”
Sadness fills the entire community, with many professionals and even the PGA Tour Commissioner expressing his sorrow.
