His final game was at the Hawarden Golf Club in Wales on June 21, where he shot three incredible birdies. This incredible feat was in memory of his father, Dave Hughes, who tragically passed away following an unsuccessful heart transplant in 2018 when George was just 18 months old.

His mission was to raise money for The Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association, which helped George’s father and mother by offering accommodation, travel expenses, emotional support, and more. George’s grandfather, Tony Sedgwick, shared, “When Dave passed away, the family wanted to give something back to the FHLTA, and so the fundraising began, with various golf events, with George taking part in all of them.” FHLTA supports patients and families from all over Great Britain who await a transplant, alleviating many stresses and worries.

George has now touched the £90,000 fundraising mark. His challenge began in southern Ireland, where he teed off at the Ballymascanlon Hotel, followed by Cloverhill Golf Club in Northern Ireland. The young fella then took a ferry from Belfast to Scotland to play at Wigtownshire before making the 5-hour journey to Chester, England. The final game was in Wales, where more family members were present to cheer him on.
