The third major and the second-oldest and most highly coveted tournament, the US Open, is just about to begin this weekend. Many renowned golfers such as Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and the tournament?s defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick will be seen teeing it up at the iconic Los Angeles Country Club in just a couple of days.

The official field of the fast-approaching tournament was officially announced, and it had 156 highly decorated golfers who would go against each other to emerge victorious. Amid these 156 names, there are a few that seem to be missing, and we wonder why!

As per the reports, Rahm and Scheffler are among the top favorite golfers who have the most chances of winning among the 156 men on the US Open 2023 field. There is no doubt that the field of the forthcoming tournament is absolutely exquisite, but there are a few names that were missing from the announced field.

According to Bunkered, the following golfers will not be seen in LA this weekend:

  • Tiger Woods?

Tiger Woods’ absence from the tournament hardly comes as a shock since he also missed the last major, the PGA Championship. The golfer has decided to sit out of the US Open, as he is still recovering from ankle surgery that he had done to help him heal from his near-fatal accident.

  • Talor Gooch

Talor Gooch was engaged in a longstanding bicker with the USGA because of the retroactive rule change that the association announced that only impacted him. Though he was able to compete in the PGA Championship with his special invitation, his performance was way off the cut mark, and as a result of the USGA?s rule, he could not compete with other decorated golfers in Los Angeles this weekend.

  • Harold Varner III

Harold Varner III had just won LIV?s Washington, DC, event after displaying an amazing performance. He is not the name that one would usually see at the top of the leaderboard in a major tournament, but his DC win let him earn a spot in the US Open qualifiers. Unfortunately, he fell just three shots short during the qualifying rounds in North Carolina, causing him to miss his first major tournament since the 2021 event.

  • Graeme McDowell

McDowell?s ranking has plummeted hard ever since he joined the Saudi League. He was the champion of the US Open in 2010 when he emerged victorious at Pebble Beach. Although McDowell’s special exemptions for the US Open have expired, he almost secured a spot through the challenging route of qualifiers. But he failed to do so, as he finished just one stroke away from qualifying for a playoff.

  • Marc Leishman

Since 2015, this year?s US Open will be the first major that Leishman will be missing. He is not among the 15 LIV players who have gotten the chance to compete in LA this weekend. Although he competed in the final qualifiers alongside Garcia, his score of 74 in round 2 fell short by three, and he was not able to qualify.

  • Lee Westwood

Westwood is one such name that fans have been longing to see compete in the major tournaments this season. He did not compete in the Masters or PGA Championship and did not even try to qualify for the US Open.

Aberg is among the clan of young, talented golfers who have swayed everyone. He had an impressive track record as the world’s top-ranked amateur before finishing T25 at the Canadian Open during his professional debut. Unfortunately, Aberg fell short in qualifying by three shots in Toronto, resulting in his absence from the US Open.

  • Will Zalatoris?

Zalatoris made his fans really happy last month when he announced that he is finally pain-free for the first time in two years and is hoping to return to the course in September. But now it seems that his fans will be frustrated as he has decided not to play in the 2023 US Open because of his pain.
