DP World Tour pro Billy Horschel is a successful golfer. He has had a wonderful career as a golfer but it is not only about making scores on the green that he needed to worry about. In 2010 Billy married Brittany whom he met in 2004 at a junior golf tournament.

Six years later they tie the knot but later in their life, Brittany’s alcoholism had a big impact on both of their lives. Opening about her struggles Brittany is vocally addressing how her restraint on drinking problems improved her life.

Brittany Horschel recalls doing interviews as a sober person

Brittany Horschel graduated from the University of Florida where Billy also went. In college, she used to play golf. But later she had to stop playing golf due to recurring wrist injuries and has had three different operations on her wrist at a young age. After her marriage, her issues with drinking started, and she became an alcoholic. But recognizing how it was ruining her and her family’s life she seemed to help and became sober.

Brittany recently appeared in an interview on the Five Clubs podcast where she opened up about handling a show interview in New York while she was coming to terms with being sober. She says, “So going into the Good Morning America interview. It states almost still kind of a blur. But I was extremely nervous. That’s not my comfort zone. That’s not what I was used to.”

And also talking about something so raw, something that was still I said, a one year sober at that point.” Being sober was new to her at that time but she was comfortable with it. “It was something that I knew that I wanted to do. Because of how much I didn’t understand alcoholism, alcohol intake, the effects it has on your mind and body, and how I felt so lost. Just getting it out there to anybody who felt the same way.”

Watching herself on Good Morning America, was a dream come true for Brittany who for many years watched movies, TV shows, and interviews that’s how she wanted her life to be.

Brittany credits being sober for improving her life

Brittany realizes that she could have never done that or things like that had she continued with her alcoholism and not been sober. “At that point, even at just one year sober. I felt like I was there. I was like, Wow, I’m living all those moments that I was like, I wish I could do that. I wish I could be that person. I wish I could get up in the morning in New York City and go do a you know, interview on TV because I could have never done that when I was drinking ever.”

There was no chance for that and Brittany recognizes it. Brittany and Billy have three kids and after being sober leading a healthy and happy life. She has even credited her husband at times for being helpful in her recovery.
