No other defending champion in the 122 years of the US Open has ever hit an ace, until now! Matt Fitzpatrick became the first defending champion in the history of the US Open to hit a hole-in-one. Highly decorated golfers such as Woods and even the Golden Bear have not been able to achieve this feat in their stunning careers.
Fitzpatrick was on the 15th hole when he hit the shot and did not even realize it for a good couple of seconds. It was the fans? roar and cheers that laid it out for him that he has made history. His shot marked the 51st hole-in-one in the history of the US Open, but it was even more special in light of the fact that it came from the defending champion.

He recorded the lowest-ever opening-day score of 8-under-par 62.
The ace shot of the one-time major champion was definitely historic, but it wasn’t the first at this year?s US Open.
