Rory McIlroy has a vision for the future of golf. It involves a ‘world tour’ that would unite the sport and showcase its global appeal. The world no. 2 is playing at the Dubai Invitational this week and has been vocal about his desire to see a unifiеd global circuit for the men’s game amid ongoing talks between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund, which backs LIV Golf.
The Irishman resigned from the PGA Tour’s policy board last year and has since seemed to soften his stance on the Norman-led league. After revealing this ‘dream scenario’, he now makes an unexpected plea to Jay Monahan and the rest of the leaders in golf, explaining why America is in crucial need of this.

McIlroy believes there is an untapped commercial opportunity for the sport to grow its revenues and reach new markets, as long as corporations in America and Saudi Arabia remain involved. He said, “My dream scenario is a world tour, with the proviso that corporate America has to remain a big part of it all,” McIlroy told Golf Digest in a recent interview. ”
The Northern Irishman would like to see a world tour that includes events in Australia, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Middle East. The 4x Major Champion makes sure that the biggest tournaments have to be in America and some of the other tournaments around the world.
However, he also stressed that corporate America will have to remain a huge part of the equation as it is both the biggest market and the biggest source of revenue for golf. “Because they have the most money, basically,” said the 4-time major winner in Dubai. “The PGA Tour has proved over the last 20 or 30 years that corporate America is interested in the game of golf for a number of different reasons, and America is still a huge market for our game.”

The 24x PGA Tour winner added that he believes that by working together with other brands, the PGA Tour can help grow the game globally and benefit everyone involved. He claimed that he has been “banging that drum” for a while and hopes that the talks between the PGA Tour and the PIF will result in a positive outcome for the sport.
As per Rory McIlroy, the sport already has the ingredients to create a world tour, as the top players tend to play in the same tour countries around the world, regardless of which tour they belong to. He is more than optimistic that a world tour can become a reality soon and that the importance of the United States’ involvement will affect the size and brand of the PGA Tour.
