Phil Mickelson is the golf world’s favorite Twitter star. Besides Max Homa, it is Mickelson who knows how to rightly operate the platform without indulging in bad-mouthing.
And recently when a Twitter user made some untasteful remarks against him, then Mickelson, who is busy teeing it off the LIV Golf’s $25 million European tournament, Andalucía, took a few moments off and gave him a strong reply.

Rickie Fowler is a fan favorite. People adore their golf orange crush. But there are some people who question Fowler’s capabilities of making a good finish at a tournament. Fowler is currently waving his flag at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. After the third round on Saturday, he is sitting on the top without a tie. But one Twitter user just couldn’t resist giving his unsolicited opinion of Fowler’s performance for the final round on Sunday.
A Twitter user who goes by the name of Unicorn wrote – “I’ve always liked Rickie Fowler but he chokes tomorrow guaranteed. Likely shoots over par. He’s playing some really good golf, but sadly a modern-day Phil Mickelson that just can’t close out a 54-hole lead anymore.” This tweet received more than 58,000 likes on Twitter. But this unprecedented attack on himself was not ignored by Phil Mickelson who took the matter in his own hand.
Phil Mickelson’s sharp reply to fan’s allegations
The six time major winner is currently busy playing at the Real Club Valderrama in Spain. But he took some time out from the tournament to clear the air. Mickelson who himself is a master Twitterati, handled this matter very wisely. Responding to the tweet he wrote – “Dear unicorn, I have one of the highest closing rates with a 54-hole lead in history so I’m assuming when you’re talking about modern day, that you’re referring to overall handsomeness. 😉”
Dear unicorn,
I have one of the highest closing rates with a 54 hole lead in history so I’m assuming when you’re talking about modern day, that you’re referring to overall handsomeness. 😉— Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) July 2, 2023
Instead of attacking the netizen, Mickelson gave a respectful answer and handled the matter gracefully. And the LIV golfer has good reason to make such solid statements.

At the 2006 US Open, he shared the 54-hole lead with Kenneth Ferrie. After that two years ago at the 2021 PGA Championship, he claimed another 54-hole lead. These statistics definitely prove all the things Phil said.
