LIV golfers sighed when they received news that they would be allowed to play in the Masters this year. But just because Augusta had greenlit their play didn’t mean that the battle had ended. Tensions among players were still high, and the feud between the two sides continued. Among the awkwardness of the situation, the Masters’ reigning champion, Scottie Scheffler, joked with LIV Golf defector Bubba Watson, which perhaps stung a little.
Scottie Scheffler currently ranks 2nd as per the OWGR. He turned pro in 2018 and won his first event at the WM Phoenix Open early in February last year. The pro had an incredible 2022 season and won four events on the tour, including the green jacket.

On Wednesday this week, at the Sentry Tournament, as per Golf Weekly, Scheffler claimed to have met Watson during his vacation in Tennessee and joked with him about the Masters. Scheffler laughed and said, “I saw (Bubba Watson) on vacation this year and I told him that I was just gonna have a separate table for him in the corner by himself.”

Although Scheffler meant it as a joke, fans can’t help but wonder if Watson felt a pinch. Along with Watson, five other LIV golfers hold green jackets and could be present at the dinner at Augusta. While many think the dinner could be incredibly tense, Scheffler hopes that the players can put aside their differences at the table.
“I think that stuff just takes time; things will heal, and we’ll see what happens,” he said. The four-time PGA Tour victor believes that eventually, things will get better. He also claims not to currently care about the battle. Scheffler stated, “All that stuff is not really for me. I can only show up and just try and play good golf.”

Despite having one of the best seasons on the Tour last year, the No. 1 ranking eluded Scheffler. Rory McIlroy won three times on the tour to maintain his number-one ranking. But the American golfer wasn’t affected, as one would expect. He claimed that the ranking wasn’t how he defined success.
“Getting caught up in the noise of who the best player is isn’t going to help me be successful,” he said. Scheffler further explained that as long as she played well and had a “great attitude,” then to him, he had “a good week.”
