The golf world is ever-changing and evolving to fit the needs of the hour and make sure that the game does not become a redundant sport. In an attempt to do that, the USGA and R&A recently released the Rollback Policy, which will reduce the distance attained by any golfer, recreational or pro.
The news had left the golf community divided on the issue, as not all golfers can hit far like pros. Coming through with her verdict on the rule, Paige Spiranac shared why she “hates” the new policy and how it will affect an amateur golfer.

The golf community has been shaken once again as the USGA and the R&A decided to make changes to how the balls are made, which will reduce the distance by 13-15 yards. At first, the proposal was made to affect only the pro golfers, now it will be problematic for the amateurs as well.
On her recent podcast episode of Playing a Round With Paige, the golf influencer shared the woes of amateurs as she said, “I’m okay with pros doing this. And I know why it all comes down to money and logistics. But why do you have to impact the poor amateurs?”
Furthermore, the former pro explains how she has never met a recreational golfer who thought, “Golf is too easy, and I hit the ball too far.” Contrastingly, Spiranac admitted that people tune in to watch pro hit the farthest and do “superhuman things” as they find it “impressive.”
Nevertheless, Spiranac understood the rationale behind it. However, she claimed that the shortened distance would be “discouraging” to many as people want to hit it farthest. At last, the 2022 Maxim Sexiest Woman confessed, “I really hate this change,” as it will hinder the gameplay of many despite their rebellion against it.

The golf community’s reaction to the Rollback Policy
The announcement of the Rollback Policy was made in early 2023 when the USGA and the R&A did not involve the recreational golfers in the policy’s implementation. However, now, the organization has revealed that not only pro golfers but the rollback policy will affect the amateurs as well. The changes will be implemented in 2028 for pros and in 2030 for recreational golfers.

After the revelation, the golf world was torn apart as those who were in support and those who did not it undesirable. Golfers like Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Padraig Harrington, and many others were in support of the new rule. However, players like Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, and Bryson DeChambeau were not on par with the policy. With the golf community divided, where do stand on the rollback policy?
