“Who can hate Tommy!!” said one fan witnessing Tommy Fleetwood as Oscar Craig’s caddie on his debut at the Challenge Tour. Aside from this, there are a lot of reasons why the Englishman remains one of the fan favorite golfers. Growing up in Southport, young Fleetwood fell in love with golf early on—he and his dad would sneak onto the legendary Royal Birkdale course, turning it into their own secret playground for perfecting his swing.

Since turning professional in 2010, Fleetwood has played more than 152 events on the PGA Tour and has earned over $25 million in prize money. Although he has no PGA titles, things seem favorable for him at the RBC Heritage. The second round finished with Justin Thomas leading the field after shooting a 69. However, the spotlight is currently on Tommy Fleetwood. The 34-year-old fired six birdies in the second round and finished at T4. With this, he is looking strong to win the title this week.

The golfer’s performances are not bad by any means. Last year, he played in 19 events, securing four top-10s and eleven top-25 finishes. In all this, his most highlighted one was the 3 finish at the 2024 Masters, which remains his best finish in his Masters history. Other times on the same field, he’s come heartbreakingly close to major glory, finishing runner-up at the 2018 U.S. Open and the 2019 Open Championship.

However, aside from the PGA Tour, the golfer has won eight times internationally. He started with his win at the Kazakhstan Open in 2011 and then won the Dubai Invitational last year. Not only that, but Fleetwood also finished second at the Paris Olympics and took the silver medal for his country, England. One can say that these are good performances, as he has been very close on the PGA Tour to winning a title. Despite that, Fleetwood is disappointed with his performance.

What does Tommy Fleetwood have to say about his game?

Carved in history’s hand, an Olympic medal reflects more than triumph—it whispers to the future, urging the next to find their place in the sun. Although not gold, Fleetwood won silver for his country, carding 266 18-underpar. Despite that, he admitted at the TOUR Championship that he wasn’t 100 percent relaxed. “No, not quite. Honestly, I never felt that comfortable at the Olympics with my game, but I played very well,” said the 34-year-old.

Aside from the Paris Olympics, Fleetwood also had very close performances like T7 at the Valero Texas Open and T5 at the BMW Championship. However, he wasn’t happy with his stats and added, “I’ve said a bunch of times the one thing that’s been lacking, I haven’t had that many amazing results.” As per him, these finishes aren’t impactful enough at tournaments like the FedExCup. To this, he said, “Just not the great ones that actually have a massive impact on things like the FedExCup and the year and things like that.”

Then, earlier this year, the golfer had pulled inspiration from the recent Masters Champion, Rory McIlroy, stating, “I want to continue to improve my all-around game and put myself in a position to win as many times as possible.” so, with a heart imbued with hope, it shall be a season of unfolding grace.
