Has Lee Westwood joined the Saudi Golf League?

The Asian Tour-sanctioned event, Saudi International, starts on February 3rd. Some of the biggest names in the sport of golf are competing this week. Not to forget, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour earlier had opposed players from competing in the event. But, later on, they lifted their bans.

The notable names include Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson. Dustin Johnson is also the defending champion of the event which was earlier played under the DP World Tour. Westwood, a former number one in the World Golf Rankings, is also teeing it up this week.

Westwood was recently asked about his association with the Saudi-backed golf league in a media interaction before starting his week. He replied, “I don’t know whether I want to answer questions on that. I’ve signed an NDA.” The Englishman in the past has also not feared from showing keen interest in the Saudi Golf League. Last year he spoke about the same.

He said, “For me, at nearly [£50 million] it’s a no-brainer, isn’t it? If somebody stood here and offered me 50 million quid to play golf when I’m 48, it’s a no-brainer.”

He added, “When all these things come along it’s a balancing act, isn’t it?” You’ve got to throw the balls in the air and juggle them for a while and see what comes up.”
