Is Kevin Kisner hanging up his golf clubs for good? The four-time PGA Tour winner and fan favorite has recently announced that he will join NBC Sports in a new role, sparking rumors about his retirement from the sport. However, the truth is more complicated than that.

NBC Sports and Paul Azinger parted ways a few weeks ago, ending a five-year connection, and Kisner will be replacing Azinger. But why did the 39-year-old decide to take on a new role in the golf world? This also raises several questions about his playing career.

The player has not officially retired from professional golf. However, he has taken a step back from the game to pursue a new opportunity as a golf analyst for NBC Sports. NBC announced that Kisner will be an analyst at the Tour’s first two events of the 2024 season: The Sentry, at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort in Maui, Jan. 4–7, followed by Waste Management Phoenix Open from February 8 to February 11. The PGAT pro will provide insights and commentary about what he is seeing on the golf course from the “other side.”

The American professional golfer expressed his excitement in a statement released by the PGA, saying, “I’m excited to have this opportunity with NBC Sports to watch the game of golf from the other side and comment on what I’m seeing on the course.” The golfer has not been hired full-time by the sports broadcaster.

The American golfer was very grateful for the opportunity. Talking about the new chapter of his life, and his inspiration for the role, he said, “I’ve always respected how Tommy Roy and NBC Sports’ golf production team present golf on television. I look forward to being a part of the broadcast team at The Sentry and the WM Phoenix Open and providing my insights to the viewers at home.”

Kisner’s decision to join NBC Sports part-time does not mean that he is done playing golf. But why did NBC choose him?

Remember the hilarious exchange with his caddie Duane Bock? “I hear a huge gust Kevin,” his caddie said. “Well, I’m in last place, so it doesn’t really matter,” Kisner replied. The player wasn’t in last place though. He was at T-45, sitting at 9 over. Probably just felt like he was last.
