As the world’s top players hallowed the greens of the Augusta National, the enthusiasm among the golf enthusiasts is truly unmatchable. They have swept in worldwide to witness the 4-day men’s major—Masters, hosted for the 88th time this year, kicked off its first round on Thursday. The ANGC also witnesses a bunch of celebrities every year. With no cellphones or video recording, it is the best place for them to enjoy themselves. Amidst the buzz and the air of excitement on the greens, there were whispers of a surprising swirl of revelation made in the first round of the championship.

The One Direction singer Harry Styles was spotted by a staff writer at Golf, Gabby Herzig, enjoying the match at the ANGC. Well, he was not there for the iconic golfers like Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler. Among them was even Bryson DeChambeau,  who is currently sitting on the top in the leaderboard of the ongoing first round with an exceptional score of 7-under 65. But that was not what interested Styles. He had come to support amateur golfer Christo Lamprecht.

Gabby Herzig, who was supposed to be reporting the entire round 1 of the Masters, had a fan girl moment on the greens. As witnessed Harry Styles sitting on the 17th tee box at the Augusta National. She gathered all the courage and after brushing over how to begin the conversation, Herzig went up to him and asked, “Are you guys waiting for Bryson [DeChambeau]?”.

Styles replied, “No, we’re actually watching Christo.” He was there to watch the 6 ft 8 amateur golfer Christo Lamprecht from South Africa, who won the golden invite for the Masters by winning the British Amateur Championship. Someone who was a part of his camp had a connection with the golfer from Georgia Tech. Well, who knows, maybe Styles was indeed lucky for him, but not for long.

Although he started with a great start carding 3 birdies in the front nine, he ended up carding two bogeys and a double bogey in the back nine, leading up to a score of 2-over 74, tying for the 54th position on the leaderboard. Nonetheless, the British pop singer was there enjoying the match as it unfolded.

It turns out Styles was not there just to witness the tournament. He had been to the Augusta National previously. He was also spotted at the Masters last year. When Herzig asked him whether he had ever played on the course, Styles replied, “Yes I have.” She further inquired about his rendezvous on the golfing greens: “Any highlights? Birdies?”

After hearing the question, the Sign of Times singer chuckled and answered, “Yeah, you know, a couple birdies…” It looks like the Grammy winner is not just about music but also enjoys leisure time at the golf course, apart from just being a spectator.
