Jupiter Links GC, vs NYGC was supposed to be an emotional comeback for Woods. The one after his mum unexpectedly passed on February 4. For the Big Cat, the venue is special, and will remain so. After all, this was the last place, his mom Kutilda Woods saw him playing golf. “Hi, Mom!” Woods had shouted excitedly to Tida during the encounter against Boston Common Golf. “I’m not going to s**k tonight!” He and his team didn’t. They won.

Coming to the SoFi arena, knowing his beloved mom wasn’t there in the stands was hard, and emotional. Woods recalled having her by his side in the post-match presser, “Well, I think that she really enjoyed watching me play. It was awesome to have her in the stands watching us play and having the kids here and family and friends. I had a hard time driving down here.”

Tiger Woods was scheduled to play at the Genesis Invitational a week before. However, he decided to pull out of the event, still coping. The 82-time PGA Tour winner played a round of golf with President Trump just before the Super Bowl. It was behind closed doors at the Trump National Golf Course in Florida.

“I hadn’t hit a golf ball since I played with the President and just put everything away and shut it off. I had a really hard time getting here and then reliving all the moments that we’ve had, my mom, how excited she was to have Charlie drive her here. So those are some great moments and great memories. It’s been a hard process,” he said. The emotions were high on the day and the lack of focus reflected on Tiger Woods’s game to a slight extent.

He was involved in an embarrassing moment during the day’s proceedings. During his singles match-up against Cameron Young on Hole 13, Woods hit an excellent drive to start proceedings. He was quick to get ready for his second shot, grabbing his pitching wedge. He was seen asking “How far?” and seemingly satisfied with the answer, he got ready to cover the remaining 99 yards to the green, assumedly, on the par 4 hole.

His shot was exquisite, but Woods was left shocked when he saw his shot far away from the green. Woods immediately turned to his teammates and exclaimed “You said 99 yards!”, still in disbelief. Tom Kim, his teammate was uncontrollably laughing at the situation, while his opponents were stunned. Needless to say, day 7 of TGL was a one-sided affair. New York Golf Club ousted Tiger Woods and his Jupiter Links Golf Club with a score of 10-3. Rickie Fowler’s team registered their first victory in the tech-based league. A good moment for NYGC, but a rather embarrassing one for the other team.

Woods later recalled the incident on the broadcast. When he asked for the yardage he was told 199, but he misheard it as 99. “I heard 99 yards so I went out there and hit it 100 yards. One of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career just happened. I just screwed up. That was embarrassing.”

Tiger Woods’s performance today indicates he’s still coping, as one would, obviously. His mum was his everything, his support pillar. Fans will be eager for him to recuperate well and come back stronger to earn a PGA Tour victory this season and finally trump Sam Snead and claim the record for most PGA Tour victories for himself. But where can he do that again?

When can we see Tiger Woods next?

He will more than likely make another TGL appearance at the SoFi Center on February 25. The Jupiter Links will be taking on top-placed and unbeaten Bay Golf Club. He will be looking to make a statement by claiming victory in that outing.

On the PGA Tour front, if last year is any indication, Tiger Woods would more than likely only focus on the majors. If that is the case, the Masters Tournament taking place in April will be his first appearance. But there are a few tasty competitions lined up between now and the event at Augusta National Golf Course.

The fourth signature event of the year Arnold Palmer Invitational is taking place in the second week of March. That is followed by the flagship event, the Players Championship. Woods is a two-time winner of the Players having claimed victory in 2001 and 2013. Both events are held in Florida, where Woods currently resides.

Fans will be eager to see the Big Cat back in action again. Do you think he will be able to add one more PGA Tour victory and overtake Sam Snead for good?
