The last time the world saw Scottie Scheffler cry was at Marco Simone. Much has changed since then. Scottie Scheffler has won four titles, including one major, been arrested, released, charged with a felony, and has carded his first over-par round in more than six months. He was shaken but wasn’t overwhelmed. But unflappable doesn’t mean unemotional, as Needtobreathe’s lead singer, Bear Rinehart, spoke from a personal experience.
Needtobreathe’s ties with golf, and indeed, the PGA Tour run deep. The rock band lent their musical skills to the FedEx Cup Fall commercial last year. They met the world no. 1 golfer a few months ago, and Bear Rinehart revealed Scheffler had tears in his eyes during one of their concerts.

Rinehart had the opportunity to play the foundation event for Behind Every Door, an organization to which the Schefflers significantly contribute. Meredith, Scheffler’s wife, works as a Director of Curating Opportunities. That’s where he got to know the 27-year-old first.
Later, Scheffler attended one of their events. After they were done playing, Rinehart revealed they had a ‘writers and a round thing’ with Drew Holcomb, Mat Kearney, and Judah Lee. Scheffler was moved to tears while listening to one of their songs. Although Rinehart didn’t reveal which particular song that was, he said, “I could tell he had been crying, you know, he’s like, ‘Man, that moves me, and that blew me away. I hope he won’t be mad at me for sharing that. ”
Notably, Scheffler is a devoted Christian who has time and again downplayed his achievements as only serving God’s purpose. At the Masters, the world no. 1 said his victory “was secured in Cross.” In fact, the 27-year-old met his caddie, Ted Scott, at a Bible Study Group. Scheffler is known to be a nice guy, almost to a fault. Rinehart told Golf Channel, “I can just validate, at least for my experience as the guy’s incredible and down to earth. That’s great for the game of golf, in my opinion.”

Perhaps, banking on that, Rinehart has asked world no. 1 to do a charity event for his organization, ‘Four Others,’ even though he doesn’t “know him very well.” It’s not clear whether Scheffler will be able to attend that, as the reigning Masters champion’s life was thrown in disarray in a jiffy.
What’s next for Scheffler?
Scottie Scheffler’s arraignment date has been postponed to June 3 on his attorney, Steve Romines’s, appeal. Romine noted that he was not consulted while fixing the initial arraignment date of May 21. Romines also clarified that the reports of charges being dropped were false.

Notably, the LMPD chief has also issued a statement noting that the department is running an internal investigation. Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel affirmed that “Any policy violations that are revealed through the course of the investigation will be appropriately addressed according to LMPD’s disciplinary protocol. The department intends to provide an additional update on the investigation on Thursday, May 23, 2024.”
Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, is gearing up for his next tournament in his home state, Dallas. The reigning Masters champion is listed in the field of $9.1 million at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. Scheffler admitted he was “fairly tired” with the entire ordeal. The 27-year-old finished T8 at the PGA Championship despite carding his first over-par round this year on Saturday.
