Momentous! It was just momentous when Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open trophy along with a whopping $4.3 million! DeChambeau’s win has certainly been quite patriotic for the entire LIV Golf community. Greg Norman sits at the top of this list and is likely to celebrate the win as much as the player himself. Here is a glimpse of his limitless contentment.

Only days after DeChambeau triumphed at Pinehurst No. 2, he was invited to a dinner with Norman. The 69-year-old former World No. 1 golfer shared a stunning video on his official Instagram account. He was seen hoisting a cup that he had never touched before. In the caption of his post, Norman wrote, “Dinner with the Champ @brysondechambeau and @crushers_gc last night. I always wanted to hold that trophy. Thanks BdC @paul_caseygolf @banstaa missed you @charleshowell3.”

Greg Norman’s happiness and excitement in the video are as visible and vocal as the disappointing expression on Rory McIlroy‘s face last Sunday. Awkwardly holding the cup, not understanding how to approach it, Norman won the community’s heart.

However, the smile that Greg Norman had held on his face showed a long desperation that he could not act on until this Sunday. Last year’s US Open saw at least two LIV golfers among the Top 10 in every round. Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson maintained that trend till the end, yet the former could only finish at T4. Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau were also in great form, but not enough to win LIV Golf a much-needed victory.

In his career as an active golfer, Norman reached the top and was announced as the World’s No. 1 golfer. He has won The Open Championship twice but has never laid his hands on the US Open trophy before. He came as close to runner-up status twice, in 1984 and 1995. But, given the situation LIV Golf is in right now, the Norman-led league had a far greater urgency for this win than he had felt before. The win has ultimately boosted the overall confidence of the Saudi-backed league as well as that of its fans.

The golf community congratulates a happy Greg Norman

One of the fans wrote, “Crazy to think that Greg has never touched the US Open trophy … highlights the exceptional effort of Bryson to get it out there and share 🙌.” Norman’s long-awaited wish to hoist the US Open Cup has been in the minds of the fandom too. They not only applauded DeChambeau’s skills but also appreciated him sharing the joy with Norman. His humble sportsmanship showed a winning glow on Norman, which to the fan is unbelievable; for the golfer who has 88 professional wins but no US Open title, the joy indeed knew no bounds!

Another fan commented,I love the happiness surrounding Greg and Bryson. Greg looks like he could shoot 62 at a major championship tomorrow.” The happiness that oozed out of the video made it seem like Greg Norman was at his best. The fan commented that the 69-year-old Norman looks so healthy and fit that he could shoot well in a major championship. Afterall, Mickelson became the oldest major champion in 2021, what if Greg Norman could too, if given a chance?

Yet another reflection of what is the ultimate reality for Norman. They said, “Sometimes victories come in different ways after huge and long effort. Well deserved Greg of Bryson sharing this US Open victory that has a lot to do with you” Although Norman did not win a beautiful US Open trophy in his career, fans suggested he won this time in a different light.

One other fan commended Greg Norman for being a needed leader. @shark_gregnorman is honestly enthusiastic and happy for @brysondechambeau’s success. That’s the type of leadership that goes a long way.” Weeks after Xander Schauffele had called out Monahan for not being an apt leader, Norman received this compliment. The difference in their bonds with players on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf was laid bare.

Finally, the fandom also took an emotional stand. One of them said, Brought a lot of joy to so many!!!” Greg Norman’s awkward approach to holding the trophy has brought many happy reactions from the fans. After he struggled for a long time to stand against every backlash that LIV Golf has been taking, the community rejoices in this win. Now two LIV golfers have emerged as the major champions, the first being Brooks Koepka at the 2023 PGA Championship!
