If Greg Norman had a nickel for every time he did something new to try and impress the golf community and succeeded, he would have zero nickels! It’s news to no one how the Saudi-backed league has been trying to win over golf fans since its inception. But has it happened yet? No, not yet! But this does not seem to bother the Great White Shark! He hasn’t accepted defeat and keeps trying new ways to succeed.
Speaking of new ways, recently NUCLR Golf posted on X, covering the first round of LIV Golf UK, and guess what? The new LIV broadcast development had the fans completely blown away. While quite a few things have succeeded in impressing golf fans, like the fast-paced action, more shots per hour, great audio, and candid interviews, the new development failed to do the same. What’s this new development we’re talking about? Well, it’s the elevation graphics!

The broadcast featured something entirely untouched in LIV Golf UK’s round 1. One could see, in the X post, a small clip of the new development, and of course, the fans were first in line to give away their thoughts on the elevation graphics.

It’s news to no one how brutal fan comments can be sometimes, and the LIV Golf has surely had its fair share. But the fans under the X post don’t think that’s enough. One fan commented, “lol so the same thing NBC has done for years”. The comment compares the graphics used by NBC over the years to the recent broadcast development that LIV Tour is calling new. The elevation graphics have been used for ages in many other sports, like mountain biking and cycling.
Another user wrote, “They should try just having more than six guys play good golf,” taking a jab at the Saudi-funded league. And well, it is kind of a truth. According to fans, the small developments are not going to change much viewership when the players themselves play pretty average. Although there are a few decorated golfers on the LIV roster, they hardly ever play so well to come out on top. One of the last big names to win was Sergio Garcia in Andulicia. “My mind is made up; I’m going to watch my first LIV event because they animated a triangle,” said one fan, mocking the PIF-backed league and adding fuel to the fire.

With zero to no increase in viewership, LIV Golf’s bad days don’t seem to end, even after almost 3 years in the game. “Oh cool, another gimmick people aren’t gonna tune in to watch,” said another fan. PGA Tour has been struggling with viewership too this season, but LIV’s has always been less than the American Tour. The new elevation graphics feature, which was supposed to be a game-changer, failed to impress fans. According to them, instead of enhancing the viewing experience, it came across as gimmicky and unnecessary.

One fan said the thing that Greg Norman was dreading the most: “Won’t matter, people still won’t watch.” One failure after another seems to mean it’s going to take a lot more than just elevation graphics for the new league to win over the golf community.
Despite the brutal comments, fans are still excited to know who wins the ongoing LIV Golf UK. Currently, Jon Rahm is in the top two. do you think he’ll be able to win the tournament? Let us know in the comment section below!
