Greg Norman claiming credit for Scheffler's success—Is he delusional or does he have a point?

Talk about a dream season! With numerous golfers performing their best and taking home the trophies, fans couldn’t be happier with the jam-packed 2024 season. However, there is one player who has been on top of every player since the start. Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about Scottie Scheffler. The golfer has been on fire, and his latest achievement is the icing on the cake.

Scheffler’s golf game has been on fire all season, but what’s even more impressive is the heart and soul he’s poured into his craft, as evidenced by his recent achievement of $8 million. No, this is not a joke! By beating some of the greatest players in the industry, Scheffler claimed the top spot in the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10. Amazing, right? It certainly is. The PGA Tour took to their X account to announce Scheffler’s remarkable feat, and the golfer himself is in disbelief.

“It’s been an incredible year for me both on and off the course, so to finish up the regular season by earning the top spot in the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 is an honor,” said Scheffler according to the PGA Tour website. But what did he do to surpass everyone? Frankly, quite a lot!

Have an interesting take?

Golf fans know when to speak up if the credit is due, and that stays the same for the PGA rival tour as well. After it was announced that Scottie Scheffler bagged the staggering $8 million, fans could not shut up about it and started thanking LIV Golf. “Yep, @livgolf_league is sooooo bad. Looks to me like that rising tide has definitely lifted all boats. They honestly deserve a Thank You. 💰”, said one user.

It is clear that the PGA Tour is working to retain its players by offering them more financial incentives, especially in response to the emergence of LIV Golf. The Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 was launched in 2021, the same year LIV Golf debuted, and the PGA Tour also introduced the Player Impact Program (PIP) that year. The PIP rewards players for their contributions to the Tour’s publicity. With $40 million shared among 10 players in 2021 and $100 million distributed among 20 players in 2022 and 2023, it’s evident that these initiatives have been successful in increasing player engagement and retention.

“Thanks @livgolf_league”, said another fan. And well, perhaps the fans are right this time. Adding to the grateful comments, this fan said, “How much of that is thanks to LIV?”, very much, according to the fans. One fan pointed out the obvious and said, “I can see the game growing now”. And well, it is true. The PGA Tour has shown significant growth ever since the LIV came into the game. The no-cut signature events and prize money increases are prime examples of a direct response to the PGA Tour-LIV Golf feud.

“The drop off after 3 is crazy, really shows where the holes are, jon rahm, bryson, brooks could & prob would be there”, said one fan, referring to the players that are under the top three on the 2024 Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 list. Currently, Colin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, and Ludvig Åberg are occupying the 4th, 5th, and 6th place. However, according to the fans, the names could have easily been replaced by Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka, had they not joined LIV Golf.

And yes, with the impressive performances from these players this year, it seems like a fair possibility. Rahm won LIV Golf UK and finished T7 in the British Open, while DeChambeau clinched the trophy at the 2024 U.S. Open, adding a second major title to his name.
