Is Greg Norman's legacy in golf defined by his bold moves with LIV Golf?

Greg Norman might not be at the LIV Golf helm next year, but his impact will be heard loud and clear. Reportedly, Great White Shark will leave the position of CEO next year and move to an advisory role inside the PIF-funded side. Nevertheless, as long as he is in charge, Norman is leaving no stone unturned to make golf louder.

Per the latest announcement, Dom Dolla, one of the most celebrated Australian musicians and record producers, will be the headline act for LIV Golf Adelaide. The 32-year-old will perform after the first round ends on Friday. “I’ve always wanted to be a golfer; this might be the closest I’ll ever get. Adelaide, I can’t wait to see you all in February,” the Grammy-nominated DJ said. It will be Dom Dolla’s only concert in South Australia next year.

LIV Golf Adelaide will kickstart on February 14. The Friday ticket sale will start on October 24, Thursday. Anyone with a first-round ticket will be allowed to enter the concert. LIV Golf has introduced new tires of tickets for the 2025 iteration.

The Ground Plus pass ($137 AUD) will allow attendees to access a few grandstands around the course and the lounge in Fan Village, aptly titled Oasis. Whereas, tickets for Zone A (AUD 132) take fans closer to the stage than a general admission ticket. Lastly, the VIP experience tickets (starting at $330 AUD) offer a front-row seat to the concert and include access to the restrooms and two drinks.

LIV Golf Adelaide has been an overwhelmingly successful event in its previous editions, and we are excited that Australian fans have even more to look forward to both on and off the course next year,” the outgoing CEO Greg Norman said in the official statement. The Aussie has been heavily invested in LIV Adelaide’s success. Undoubtedly, it will be part of Shark’s contentious legacy in the game.

How LIV Golf Adelaide has offered Greg Norman a winning formula

What’s your perspective on:

Is Greg Norman's legacy in golf defined by his bold moves with LIV Golf?

Have an interesting take?

The LIV Golf Adelaide has been the benchmark for the nascent league. Something that Norman wanted to recreate in every event with moderate success. In 2023, in its inaugural edition, the $25 million purse event drew 77,000 attendees from 37 countries. That increased to 94,000 this February. The 2023 iteration injected $65M into South Australia’s economy as well.

This year’s tournament was even more rip-roaring thanks to Ripper GC’s valiant efforts. The All-Australian team offered something close to LIV Golf’s vision of home and away tournaments. Cam Smith’s team won the tournament in a thrilling team playoff.

Numbers indicate South Australia gained $71.1 million this year, with 40% of attendees coming to the Grange Golf Club from outside the state. A similar success looks to be on the cards for 2025 as well. At least early comments indicate that. “My actual dream has come true now; I don’t even have to ask the DJ to play Dom,” one user commented on Instagram. “It’s a Galentines day in heaven,” another commented. Amid rumors of exit, the 2025 LIV Golf Adelaide might be Norman’s most lasting impact on the PIF-funded side.
