Brooks Koepka's tribute at LIV Chicago—Is he the most influential golfer of our time?

LIV Golf is making every effort to stay ahead in the golf community. From issuing an open challenge to the PGA Tour to declaring new traditions, Greg Norman is putting his best foot forward. It looks like this time, the lore is in favor of the winning team of each tournament. The last event on the LIV Golf circuit was the Greenbrier in August.

Brooks Koepka defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff and clinched the victory. This also made Smash GC the winning team for the game. Along with the trophy, he also received the regular $4 million from the $20 million purse. But this time, there is more, as he will become the flag bearer for the new tradition announced by Greg Norman.

A few hours ago, Flushing It Golf took to their official X account and shared a video of the Smash GC flag positioned at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. After a successful run at the Greenbrier, LIV Golf has reached Chicago for the penultimate event—the LIV Golf Individual Championship in Chicago.

As per the report, “LIV Golf has begun a new tradition this season where the previous events Team Champions plant their flag on the 18th green at the course of the current event.” Thus, Smash GC Captain and Greenbrier winner Brooks Koepka hoisted his team flag at the venue for the current event, which is set to kick off this weekend.

The LIV Golf Team Championship will begin on September 20, and currently, it is Bryson DeChambeau’s team that is in the lead. Smash GC stands in fourth place with 131.50 points, which is disappointingly 45 points behind the leaders, despite winning the same number of tournaments. Just like Crushers GC, they won two championships—Las Vegas and Greenbrier.

However, what brought them down on the leaderboard were the three finishes outside the top 10 in twelve appearances (Adelaide, Nashville, and Andalucia). They are right behind Ripper GC, led by Cameron Smith, who is currently in third place with 151 points. While it looks pretty difficult to come out victorious against three teams that have been strong throughout the season, the tables can turn at any moment in the game of golf.
