The day has finally come for the most awaited patriotic showdown. Both the teams are geared up for the game. During the pre-tournament interview on Thursday with Nelly Korda and Megan Khang, when they were asked about their team dynamics highlighting the pre-existing friendships off the course, the former answered, “Well, Megan and I got whooped by the rookies the first day.”
To which Megan responded, “Yeah, Nelly and I will admit, we played a match with Lilia [Vu] and Allisen [Corpuz] and — we didn’t get whooped, we lost 1-down.” While they disagree on whether or not they got whooped, their comments shed light on the impressive prowess of the American team’s rookies.
Nelly reiterated, “We got whooped.” Talking about Lilia Vu, Megan Khang said, “Lilia was just on something. She was like — she was bringing the heat Monday, start of the week, and I was like, whoa, save some for the real matches. But she’s like, I got plenty in the bank.”
Team Europe captain Suzann Pettersen won’t take these statements lightly. Who knows, they might have been directed at her squad in a subtle way! Team USA’s line-up includes rookies like Rose Zhang, Lilia Vu, Allisen Corpuz, Andrea Lee, and Cheyenne Knight and they have had a great season so far. Team Europe too has their own set of extraordinary players, like rookie Linn Grant and seasoned Charley Hull and Leona Maguire.
