It has been only four years since Scottie Scheffler started playing on the American golf circuit. But in this brief time, Scheffler has amassed 13 wins on the PGA Tour, with his wins this year putting him on par with Tiger Woods. Needless to say, his success on the greens has also meant a significant increase in his net worth with a constant flow of financial rewards. This year alone, the New Jersey native has copped a staggering $62 million from PGA Tour payouts.
The golfer turned pro in 2018 playing in the Korn Ferry Tour and joined the PGA tour in 2020. Two weeks after graduating from the University of Texas, he played his first event on the tour. While his earnings from that tour dwarf in comparison to what he earned from his FedEx Cup success, Scheffler recalled his surprise at the amount he received following his first pro event.
Scheffler appeared on the Pardon My Take podcast on 10 September and was asked about whether there was a moment when he felt like there was a lot of money in the game of golf. The current world number one golfer recalled “I mean, I remember playing my first PGA Tour event as a pro, and I didn’t like play great. I finished maybe 40th place. It was like two weeks after graduating college, and made like, 30 or 40 grand or something like that.”

Scottie Scheffler recalled sharing the moment with his wife, Meredith, and was shocked to learn that he made this much money from his first event despite a not-so-good finish. He mentioned “I remember looking at Meredith when I got home and I got the text you get, like, a text from the tour after each tournament telling me how much money you made. And I kind of looked there, I was like, Oh my gosh. Like, I just got paid for that? That’s insane” said the 28-year-old.
Well, the golfer has only grown in stature since his early days on the Tour. He has become the man to beat over the years, winning trophies and getting to the top of the rankings, a position he has held for over 100 weeks.
He has won seven PGA Tour titles this season, including the green jacket at the Augusta National, the most since Tiger Woods did the same in 2007. In addition to his success on the Tour, he won Olympic gold in Paris in the most successful season of his golfing career. As expected, this success has also allowed him to add to his profits throughout the year.
Scottie Scheffler earned a whopping $62,228,357 from this season alone after he won the Tour Championship. Initially, his official earnings totaled $29,228,357, but with the $25 million FedEx Cup playoff bonus and an $8 million Comcast bonus, his total earnings reached $62,228,357. This year he has won at the Arnold Palmer International, the Players Championship, the Masters, the RBC Heritage, the Memorial Tournament, the Travelers Championship, and the FedEx Cup on the Tour.

Apart from this, the golfer makes $3.3m per tournament, $830K per round, $12K per shot, and $3K per minute on the course, according to CBS reporter Kyle Porter. With his astonishing success this year, Scheffler’s net worth sits at $90 million. So how has the money impacted Scheffler as a person?
Money doesn’t change what Scottie Scheffler is
Interestingly, on the Pardon My Take podcast, when the information about $62 million earnings was revealed to Scheffler, he appeared to downplay its significance. “I did read that [online], yep, I think so. I don’t really have much to say on that,” he said. “It’s been a fun year. I don’t really think about the money very much…At the end of the day, I’m just playing golf. The money is just a gift on top of that. It’s really all it is.”

Despite earning millions, Scheffler leads a simple lifestyle. He doesn’t have any supercars like Rory McIlroy nor does he own a private jet like Rickie Fowler. Instead, he still drives the old Yukon which his dad gave him back in 20212. Speaking of simplicity, the 28-year-old still uses wired earphones, which he was spotted wearing during the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Witnessing that one fan expressed their thoughts saying “Wired earbuds are definitely on brand for Scottie Scheffler. Money does not change that man.” For Scheffler money is just a bonus for him that he receives for playing the sport he loves.
