Norway’s Viktor Hovland made a huge impression on golf fans during the 2023 Masters. Last week, the golfer got off to a flying start with a bogey-free 65 to ensure an early-round lead. However, a few mistakes here and there saw the golfer drop down the leaderboard.

Eventually, Hovland finished his 2023 Masters campaign with a T7 finish. The young golfer tied with Cameron Young after the Masters final round drew to an end. Hovland, currently playing at the 2023 RBC Heritage, shared that he got a “little too greedy” last week and is learning from his past errors.

Playing in the same group as 15-time Major champion, Tiger Woods, Hovland was able to steal the limelight from Woods with his first-round heroics at the Masters. The Norwegian golfer put together an eagle and five birdies for a fiery 65. However, he failed to maintain his place at the top of the leaderboard, falling to the T7 position by the end of the Masters.

However, the golfer’s good form has followed him into the PGA Tour event at Hilton Head. He was at the lead after playing 18 holes at the 2023 RBC Heritage event. “I took a big lesson from not short-siding myself  as much last week,” said Hovland, as quoted by the PGA Tour.

The world no. 9 shared that he got a bit too greedy last week and is willing to turn that around. “I got a little too greedy and I missed it in the wrong sports, and I just can’t allow myself to do that,” revealed Hovland.

While the golfer’s Masters campaign ended with a 7th-place finish, he walked home with a whopping $580,500 in earnings. Hovland will want to keep the momentum going and emerge victorious at the 2023 edition of the RBC Heritage event.

Just like the Masters in Augusta, the first round of RBC Heritage at Hilton Head also witnessed delays due to rain. Viktor Hovland’s 7-under 64 gave him a lead after the first round drew to a finish. Meanwhile, with just eight strokes behind, 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm can definitely make a strong comeback.

The 143-players field at RBC Heritage this year is a highly competitive one. The likes of Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Xander Schauffele are competing this year for a share of the lucrative $20 million prize purse. Meanwhile, World No. 3, Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from the tournament. His decision comes after a dismal show at the recently concluded Masters, wherein he failed to make the cut.
