The finest golfer did not become fine on his own. His father, Phil Mickelson Sr., played an essential role in molding the pro golfer into the legend that he is today. In 2008, he shared the ordeal of his son’s life in a YouTube video by the PGA tour. Mainly, he talked about ‘lefty’ and how he wanted his son to play differently. The ordeals of junior Phil Mickelson as narrated by his father
Many fans might not be aware that LIV defector, Phil Mickelson, is a right-handed person. Yes, he uses his right hand to do everything except golf. While playing golf, he favors his left hand, which somehow bothered his father. Therefore, his father decided to make him practice playing with the right hand. “when I would hit balls, I would keep him in front of me, and so after about three months of that, and he got a golf club right-handed,” said Mickelson Sr.

He used to position the former PGA golfer in front of him while playing shots. And after three months of practice, Mickelson finally used his right hand to hold clubs. Post that, his father would switch their spots and ask him to take a swing. He said, “I take him from his spot put him over here in my spot said okay now you can swing.” As a result, little Mickelson would get up, go to his spot, turn around, re-grip the club and swing it with the back of the club figure.

However, his father decided they would not fool around with the swing. Therefore, they decided to change the golf club. Apart from all this, the father-son duo spent all their time together practicing golf. According to the LIV player, that was his fondest memory of golf in childhood because he would get much time with his father.
Why is Mickelson a left-handed golfer?
The reason Mickelson became a ‘lefty’ will melt your heart. The six times major championship winner started playing golf very early, and his father was an inspiration. When he began playing golf as a kid, he wanted to be a “mirror-image” of his right-handed father. Therefore, he became a lefty golfer. Now, isn’t that clever and adorable at the same time!
