The 44th edition of the Ryder Cup is all set to begin on 29th September. The team selection responsibility rests on the shoulders of US Team Captain Zach Johnson. After the Tour championship, he will be selecting six top-notch players who will fly to Rome. Several golfers have high hopes of getting picked by the captain, especially considering their extraordinary performances throughout the season.

And now, a month after Justin Thomas made a lighthearted comment (“It’s not like I’m going to write him a love letter”) about getting into the Ryder Cup, another PGA Tour pro believes he has a strong possibility of being selected based solely on his impressive performance throughout the season.

PGA Tour professionals are currently in Illinois, diligently practicing for the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the BMW Championship. Following the competition, the top six golfers will automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup based on their Ryder Cup rankings. If Keegan Bradley gets a high boost in his rankings, there is a possibility he will be automatically qualified. However, if he loses this chance, his fate of competing in Rome would lie in the Captain’s hands.

On 15th August, during a press conference before the tournament, Bradley discussed the current event as well as his potential selection for the Ryder Cup. When asked  if he would actively stump for himself or let his overall performance do the talking, Bradley remained steadfast in his belief that his strong performance would speak for itself.

Furthermore, he acknowledged that the Ryder Cup captains don’t make random selections. “I mean, Zach and the captains aren’t going to — they’re not going to pick a player based on their pitch to be there. I’m sure that they’re working through stats and models of good teammates, good partners,” said the 37-year-old golfer.

Additionally, Bradley, who claimed the top spot in the Travelers Championship in June and set a new tournament record with a remarkable score of 23-under 257, believes he would be a compatible partner for many of his fellow players. I feel like I could be a good partner to a lot of guys,” he concluded. Well, Bradley is sure his abilities will speak for himself, similar to how Justin Thomas felt last month.

Justin Thomas jokes about writing Zach Johnson a love letter

Just last month, Thomas admitted that he wouldn’t go as far as writing a love letter to the captain if he didn’t receive an automatic selection spot.

The 30-year-old golfer strongly believes that his track record speaks for itself, and he thoroughly enjoys participating in team events.

During the 2023 season, Thomas, unfortunately, didn’t manage to secure a tournament victory, but he did achieve four top-10 finishes.

Regrettably, he failed to qualify to compete in the FedEx playoffs, which ultimately hindered his chances of securing a spot among the top six selections. Consequently, his only way to join the team in Rome is either by being chosen by the captain or the vice-captain.
