What’s more special for a mom than watching her kids grow? For former LPGA superstar Michelle Wie West, life these days is all about cherishing every moment with her little ones. It has been since her daughter, Makenna, was born in 2020. She big adieu to the sport in 2023 after welcoming her. She loves her life with her kids: “Honestly, being home with my daughter more — it’s priceless. I don’t regret it. “I still love the game of golf but I really think I made the right decision and it’s just amazing being a mom,” West once said.
Her second child, a baby boy, Jagger Jerry YooJun West, was born in October 2024. He just hit the 100-day milestone, and mum celebrated it in the sweetest Korean style. Now, for those who might not know, the 100-day mark is a big deal in Korean culture. West made this moment extra special with a family gathering and a little feast. Because why not, right?
She shared the joy with her fans on Instagram, posting an adorable carousel of family photos. In the caption, West wrote, “Happy 백일 (100 day) to our baby boy Jagger 유준! So special to have been able to celebrate this special day with family and friends 🩷🩷 Being Korean is something I am so proud of, I’m so fortunate to be able to pass down these traditions to my kids.”

Six-time LPGA winner So Yeon Ryu also joined in, commenting, “Big congratulations !! They look so cute in Hanbok😍” referencing Jagger’s traditional Korean outfit. While 29-year-old Alison Lee kept it simple but heartfelt with, “😭😍😍.” Even PGA pro Kevin Na joined in with celebratory emojis: “🙌 👏👏.”
Even though West retired from professional golf, her connection to the golf world is still going strong. “I keep in touch with some of my friends for sure,” she shared in a recent interview with Scoop. West’s life has gone through some big changes since her days on the LPGA circuit.
Her decision to retire came after an incredible career with five LPGA wins, including a major, and one final appearance at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open.
Why did Michelle Wie West leave golf?
Back in May 2022, Wie West announced she’d be stepping away from professional golf, leaving many fans wondering—why now? It turns out, the decision wasn’t entirely hers to make. In an interview with Claire Rogers, West opened up about the moment she knew it was time to retire.

“I thought about it for a really long time, she shared. “I think unfortunately I was kind of forced in the decision somewhat because of my injuries and what’s going around for so long, talking to hand surgeons and should do if I want to keep playing and there just wasn’t an answer forward.”
West’s struggles with injuries weren’t new. She dealt with arthritis in both wrists and underwent surgery on her right hand in 2018 for a small avulsion fracture, bone spurring, and nerve entrapment. On the No Off-Season podcast in 2022, she admitted she often hid her injuries from the media because, as she put it, “I didn’t want to feel weak.”
But it wasn’t just the physical challenges that led to her decision. In another interview with ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti, West opened up about how becoming a mom made her rethink everything. After welcoming Makenna, she really wanted to keep playing, especially as a role model for her little girl. But the sacrifices required, both physically and personally, were too much. “I had to make a hard decision with my body. It is hard. It is hard to be a mom out here. You have to make a lot of sacrifices. I just had to make a hard medical decision and also a personal decision,” she said.

Though fans miss seeing her on the course, it’s clear West has found peace with her retired life. The decision to hang up her clubs wasn’t easy for her either. She surely loved the game and wanted to play longer, but her health and her family came first.
