Competing in a tournament and winning it were the two aims the 13-year-olds, Thomas and Spieth, had going into a junior event in Texas. However, little did they know that they would find a lifelong friend in one another from there.

Spieth and Thomas scored 68s in the first round on the first day of the two-day junior all-star tournament. However, the former did a little better than the latter in the second round. While the Texas native, Spieth scored 71, the Kentucky native Thomas could only shoot 76 on the final day.

Notably, the friendship between the two became strong while they represented USA in the Evian Junior Masters in France.

The two met for the first time during a competition. And maybe that is why they like to compete with each other all the time, starting from their amateur years.

Spieth and Thomas had their first serious battle when they were playing for the Texas University and the Alabama University teams, respectively. During the 2012 NCAA Div. I Championship at Riviera, the two teams competed against each other, where Spieth’s Longhorns won.

Even in the case of the majors, Spieth is a bit ahead of his best friend. He has won three major titles, a Masters, a US Open, and an Open Championship. On the other hand, Thomas also has two majors under his belt, two PGA Championships. Notably, the friends don’t just like competing with each other but also like to trash talk with each other.
